Interesting concept the Alexander type-02, Got to say Ive admired a lot of of Mechs and the concepts both piloted and non-piloted and even the power sources and weapon systems.
The more complex the more I like it from Arm-slaves to Armored Cores to Nightmares :) :)

The Madcat from the Mechwarrior universe is the coolest war machine I ever seen.

YES!!! Could not agree more.  Mad Cat from Mechwarrior/Battletech has always been my favorite as well.  But from anime I would have to say either RX-78-2 Gundam or GN-0000 00 Gundam

Again go to say love the load-out on all the lovely war machines out there.

the Madcats load-out is not all too impressive on its own, Shoulder mounted Rocket/Missile launchers with high cal. guns or cannons on both arms where as the RX-78-2 and GN-0000 00 Gundam is equipped with manipulators which allow more customizable load-out to fit its combat role although they seem to lack shoulder hard-points for mounted weapons unlike the Madcat.

I would have to go either with the Shinkirō Nightmare Frame, or Ichika's personal IS from infinite Stratos.

Ah yes the Knightmare Frames all hail the rebellion, classical demonstration of a heavy mecha with high agility and impressive load out, where the infinite Stratos packs some heavy ass weapons systems but would be more classed as a exosuit than a mech due to its size reitaive to the pilot.

I think it mite be time to add some more to this thread, how about the technology that goes in to some of the mecha out there (this is the tech temple after all), so anyone to start us off?

I have to disagree. The MadCat is probably the most well rounded mech in the battletech universe. It has the speed of a medium mech and the firepower and armor of a heavy mech. Not to mention that is usually fitted with Clan omnitech. Most of it's hard points can be fitted with any type of weapon which make it incredibly customizable and versatile. Honestly, it can easily go toe to toe with any other mech of it's class or even assault mechs.

I don't really think that it's fair to compare a Gundam or any other mobile suit with any mech from the battletech universe because of the fundamental design difference. Mobile suits are, essentially, built to be very humanoid-like and are capable of moving as such. The mechs from the battletech universe are a little more realistic. They're (comparatively) slow, clunky, heavily armored weapon platforms while mobile suits have a much wider range of movement and weapon choice. They are, essentially, an extension of the pilots body, being giant mechanized humanoids, which is the norm for mechs in the Gundam universe.

Battletech takes a more practical, realistic approach to how giant weaponized robots would actually function, whereas the mobile suits from the Gundam universe take a more, not impossible but, less likely and unrealistic approach.

Basically, what I'm getting at, is that comparing Gundams to battlemechs is like bringing a gun to a sword fight. Sure swords are great weapons and work well vs other weapons of their kind, but a gun is always going to win. They're just two different classes of weapons which, I feel, shouldn't be compared.

I'm not entirely sold on the Gundam look tbh. Too humanoid in appearance for my taste.

Of course that's what makes them so easy to fight with when it comes to those hand to hand battles that Japanese anime makers love to make. You can only beam and missile spam so much until people want to see the beam saber battles. When it comes to the inevitable one on one fight, shooting a 20 missile barrage at the guy at a safe distance is for pansies. Got to get in there with a beam blade and chop his mechanical limbs off.

Hey we're all into sword duals here.

The M9 from Full Metal Panic! They took the name from one of the worst military sidearms in the world and gave it to something badass. Love it.

I was kinda excited to see these in Argevollen. They look similar to mechwarrior mechs. And they move similarly...

Too bad they introduced a really fast mech as the main character's new toy.
