@Commander Theriot I know that @VeritasOdiumParit has seen quite a few of this genre. I know he'll recommend you something like Paranoia Agent, Bogiepop Phantom, and some others of that style.

There's of course the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime. I don't recommend it at all but some people swear by it. An alternative to that one is RahXephon. Both are incredibly similar but frankly I liked the later much more. Both of this are more in line of mecha battles and the pilot's dealing with all the fighting.

You seen Chaos Head? Nice I like that one as well

Ghost in the Shell is a safe bet. Not sure if I would classify it as psychological but I do remember some episodes were pretty deep. For some reason that cheesy puppy episode with the robot sticks to my mind even today. Not that it was bad or anything.

I've also seen quite a bit which leaves the problem of not knowing what to watch. Most of the time I stumble across new anime by stroke of luck. That's why I'm asking you guys. I've seen boogiepop and started ghost in the shell but didn't get far.

Then let's start thinking outside the box,

Hellgirl could be a good one. I'm not a fan of episodic anime but the general idea is cool. She delivers death for the price of your soul (or something like that.)

Gilgamesh is an unknown anime. Pretty bleak and atmospheric. I like the numerous references to old Babylon myths and religions. The ending was interesting and different then what I expected. Might be on the slow side but I'm not the type to care for pacing.

Canaan comes from the Ghost of the Shell mold. Strong female lead trying to stop some organization or something. This one is more heavy on the action but I know the last parts start to delve more on the actual characters. This has a trio of similar anime but I forgot the names of them.

Deadmen Wonderland? Didn't like it much myself but it's hard to ignore an anime that pits all it's characters in a corrupt prison setting. A nice idea but I personally thought more could have been done to flesh out the characters.

Now and Then, Here and There
A long title name to be sure, this one is another relatively unknown anime. I love this one! The only fault is that maybe the main character is a bit on the static side (okay he never changes) but that's the point. The characters that surround him have completely given up hope in the terrible conditions they live in. It's such a cultural shock for the main guy and a fascinating watch to see how he copes with the evils of the world he teleports into.

I think that exhausts my list for this kind of thing. I really need to get around to watching Monster but that's a lot of episodes for me to take in...

@Commander Theriot do you have an anime list anywhere? That way it will be easier to narrow down what to recommend you :p

A list of all the anime you have watched or at least a good portion of it. Sites like Anime Planet or MyAnimeList are sites that help you organize and keep track of your list.

@Commander Theriot I can recommend Serial Experiments Lain if you haven't already seen it. As well as Paranoia Agent, Terror in Resonance and Perfect Blue. Again, without a list it's quite hard to know what you have and have not seen.

Ehh I would not really recommend Terror in Resonance, it's got a godly soundtrack (thank you based Yoko Kanno) but the entire plot is a shamble and there is a god awful amount of gratuitous English.

@Sir-Maddy I agree that the ending was a little disappointing. But, for a psychological thriller it was good.
