The New Release Club's General discussion

Hey just gonna say I'm gonna start watching shit again. Possibly today if things go as planned. Only problem is that I'm like really behind on stuff, like I only have up to I think episode 5 of Tokyo Ghoul. Anyway just giving a heads up so everyone can start dreading my rants xD.

 

Hey I'm back to give some mini reviews for some of the stuff this season (I'll skip Aldnoah and SAO II since I've said plenty about them already)

Fairy Tail-This season was pretty decent. The end of the season was rather dissapointing but overall it was a nice season.

Rail Wars(6.5/10)- For a show about trains it's actually pretty good. The cast isn't too special but they have enough to them to be worth watching and this show has some surprisingly intense scenes. It doesn't exactly have much of an actual plot as most of the crisises they run into aren't part of some sort of larger scheme. But still it's much better than I expected even with the fan service.

Tokyo ESP(5.5/10)-First off the first episode is a lie. While the rest of the series does have a little action it's nothing like what the first episode promised. In fact the action is rather disappointing and besides a few cool moments it's nothing special at all. The heroes either have lame powers , don't use them very well, don't show up enough to use them. For example the main characters power is to phase through things...besides people. So you can't shoot her but you can easily punch her. Overall the characters and plot are decent and there is nothing wrong with this series. But it's just not all that exciting and it's fairly predicatble.

Majimoji Rurumo(6.5/10)-This show is actually slightly unique. At first it looks like your standard harem ecchi anime but the MC only has one girl who is at all interested in him. The MC is a pervert but dependable and the girl is quiet and shows little emotion but she's also surprisingly naive and kind. So she's not emotionless for lack of caring she just isn't very expressive. Besides that it's more a romantic comedy series with a fair bit of ecchi tossed in here and there. Overall it's a fun show that is worth a watch if it's your kind of thing.

Captian Earth (7.5/10)-This show has fairly entertained me. The MC is dependable right from the get go. For example jerky government guy has shock collars attached to these other two (one of which is his old friend and the other is a cute girl) and he puts on on the MC as well as basically says "Do what we say or else". Well he basically says "Fuck you" walks off the base despite the shocks and shoots down the control tower for the collars with his space gun that only he can use. One of the other girls Akari is a lot of fun as well and some of the stuff she does will really impress you and other things should make you laugh a little. The rest of the case is pretty decent too but those two just stand out the most IMO. Surprisingly the one thing this show kinda lacks is mecha battles. When they start they don't last long and there are several episodes without any. So if you aren't a Mecha fan you might still want to check this out as the Mecha aren't always there. For those that like Mecha they aren't non existent so you'll still get your Mecha fix in the end. The villains start out kinda dull but get far more interesting and the show continues.

Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance(4/10)- it sounded bland, it looked bland, it is bland. From what I've seen this show doesn't have even one redeeming feature. The Heroine is Tsundere the MC is kind, dependable, and lets the girl walk all over him for the most part. The rest of the girls in the harem are obviously better picks but it's fairly obvious he won't pick them even though they are all much nicer to him than her. There is nothing Technically wrong with this series as it does everything you would expect....but it does nothing else. Honestly even if you like harem series skip this because there is nothing worth seeing unless you are a die hared Tsundere fan.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun(7/10)-Hilarious. Hilarious. HILARIOUS! Man I love this show so much and it's so funny! Definitely check this out if you like comedy. Unless it just REALLY does not suit your sense of humor for some reason you should love it. I only gave it a 7 because besides the comedy there is no real plot to speak of so besides the fun characters and the situations there isn't much else I can think to judge. It would have been nice if the story had a little more structure to it.

Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!?(6.5/10)-This was a fun little series. The cast is varried and interesting enough and the plot is pretty insane and random but with enough structure to it that you can actually follow it pretty easily. If you liked "Is this a Zombie" then you'll proably like this. It's not quite as insane or random as that show but they felt similar partly is the random collection of girls. It's definitely worth a watch if you like harem or comedy series at all.

Momo Kyun Sword(5/10)-The last few episodes are surprisingly good. Action is picking up and things are serious. Basically here is how the show goes. First few episodes are fan servicey but interesting, new several episodes range from okay to fairly dull, last few episodes are interesting and nice to watch. If the entire show was like the first and last couple I'd recommend this show. But as things stand the larger part of the show just makes it not really worth it. Although there are several episodes you can basically skip and not miss a single important detail so if you did that the show is much more interesting.

 

Since we're coming to the of Summer I may as well list what I will be watching in Fall.

I was surprised to see Danna ga Nani wo Itteru ka Wakaranai Ken though because I looked at this list just last week and didn't see it listed. It looks like it could be a rather funny show.

The studio got changed from Satelight to Studio DEEN.
You know, THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE US PUPA.

I'M LIKE, SO UPSET AT THIS.
But on the plus side DATABASE IS COMING BACK.
BUT IT LOOKS SO **** NOW.

 

Yeah the title basically translates to "I don't understand my Otaku husband" so this could be really fun.

So it seems all that Deen is doing is handling the animation and after looking on Anime News Network it seems a lot of the anime they were involved with just involved helping with the animation and they've been involved in the animation of dozens of shows that turned out pretty well.

 

The major problem with DEEN is that they're known for cheap budgets (See Umineko, Sakura Trick, Higurashi) and as such produce more quality moments than other studios.
They are also known to completely butcher adaptations (Umineko, Fate/stay Night).
I know the staff is the same, but with DEEN doing the animation it's just a recipe for disaster.

I hate them, which is ironic considering my favourite anime is Higurashi and that was from DEEN.
They should just stick to Yaoi shows as they seem to be good at that.

 

But they've done plenty of good animation plus in all honestly LH season 1 hardly had high dubget animation. I liked it well enough but Deen could probably do the same and not spend all that much money.

Looks fine to me. Sure it's not super high grade animation but neither was season 1. I think it looks slightly different but I watched the full trailer and it looks pretty much the same for the most part. So even if it's slightly better or worse it's close enough to where a shit storm is not needed.

 

We'll go tell that to every other person on the Internet.

Yeah those people on MAL kinda annoy me. I mean seriously there is no need to go "Fucking dropped" over something like an animation studio change. Especially one that has done plenty of good work at least in terms of animation. I don't remember seeing anything with AAA animation on their list but their past work is passable. Plus it's still the same show with the same writing staff ragardless of animation. So unless the animation is unbarably bad (Which it isn't you can clearly see in the trailer that it's still decent at least) there is no reason to freak out.

Was anyone seriously watching Log Horizon for it's animation alone? Remind me to NEVER get into the anime industry because these people are just unforgiving.


BTW for the record I'm not exactly happy about the studio change either because it's going to be weird having the animation change like that between seasons.

 

I think it's more-so their past few shows have been... less than average.

 

Still they have done decent work in the past so it's too soon to call plus it's a bit much to drop the show and immediately start condemning the show for it.

 

My watch list this season is small at the moment:

• Psycho-Pass 2
• Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru (I'm shortening this to Yuu3 [cubed])

I may add more later.

 

So Aldnoah.Zero ended with a second season coming in January.
