The Deepwater Horizon trailer puts Mark Wahlberg in danger
Mark Wahlberg is no stranger to stories of real world peril on the sea after The Perfect Storm. He's starring in another tale of heroism against incredible odds for Deepwater Horizon, which has just put its first trailer on to the web.

Peter Berg is in the director's chair for this one, which charts the events on the BP oil rig in the 48 hours leading up to the 2010 disaster and the day itself. The behind-the-scenes tale will highlight stories of real-life heroism around the incident, which were not made public at the time but appeared in the script’s source material, a New York Times article entitled Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour. The paper’s piece chronicled how 11 people were killed and 16 injured when the rig blew, and gushed oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Matthew Michael Carnahan has adapted the screenplay for the film, which J.C. Chandor had originally signed to direct.

This first trailer is more of a tease, featuring Wahlberg's Mike Williams at home with his wife (Kate Hudson) and daughter Sydney (Stella Allen), helping the latter with her school project on him and his job. But he'll face the biggest challenge of his life soon enough, as brief shots of the main story show.

With Dylan O'Brien, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich and Gina Rodriguez among the cast, Deepwater Horizon will be on our screens in September.
