SCOTUS Rules In Favor of Same-Sex Marriage

In a 5-4 ruling (wow.. really? How is this not unanimous?) the Supreme Court of the United States has announced today that same-sex couples, nation-wide, have the right to marry.

This comes after months of federal courts striking down state same-sex marriage bans, with several states taking their bans to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the states' same-sex marriage bans are unconstitutional and that every U.S. citizen has the right to marry a person of the same gender, and that the states must recognize and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

States which have attempted to uphold their marriage bans have begun issuing licenses on the order of their governors.

This is a great day for civil rights and human dignity in the U.S.
