@batosai I agree with Supernatural Knight on this one, you’re the first person I’ve ever seen give it a negative review. I myself didn’t think it quite lived up to the hype surrounding but thought it was still a solid 7/10. Ah well, just differing opinions i suppose.

Leme bring in 2 other people so i won't be alone anymore then.

    @Sporadic @bennydragonheart

@Supernatural-Knight, maybe i was a little harsh, but i just couldn't stand this anime. It got more annoying evry second towards the end. Nothing made sense. Kind of the same reason why i dislike Gurren Lagann. Although Gurren Lagann had some great characters and this doesnt. Even now thinking about Miria's voice i get annoyed by it. And theres no way i will watch those OVA's. I'm just not interested.

The story itself would get a 4. I really didn't like their way of telling a story. Way too confusing when it keeps switching between 3 years. And i don't like when some people are immortal and some aren't. Kind of stupid imo.
Miria herself made me give it a 3 and then the ending sucked so it went down to a 2.

It was so bad I don't even want to write a review.

    Initial D First Stage - 7/10

Before i started watching this, i was told it is a great anime if you are into street racing. After watching the first season, i agree with this. However, i'm not into street racing, but i still enjoyed this.
It has a very slow start with a very lame main character who doesn't seem to enjoy anything. He gets into street racing and has his first race, which was good. After that certain events happen, which will keep him racing and give him something to race for. The lame main character becomes more alive and gets a personality. After that the show becomes pretty fun.
The animation is very odd. Sometimes feels kind of awkward, but it's acceptable. At first i hated the character design, i'm still not a huge fan, but i guess i became used to it. During the races they use 'computer made animation' (forgot the word again, hope evryone knows what i mean). Which really bothered me at first. But eventually that becomes alright aswell.
The characters are decent. You have Takumi, the main character, who like i said starts off very lame but becomes a good character as the anime goes on, his friends don't add much to the racing content, but they are fine supporting characters.
The music is very 90s, but that adds to the charm of this anime, because it was made in the 90s and the story seems to be in the 90s aswell.

Overall a good anime. Not amazing, but good and enjoyable. I do recommend it if you need something to watch.

OMG....dat final 2 episodes... on par with SnK on brutality, i loved the story, though it was just TO slow. cant really say much, as its a 12ep series, saying much about it would be considered a spoiler.

    Guilty Crown
    4/10

Don't know why I bothered finishing this. Must've been because it is possibly the prettiest looking pile of crap I've ever encountered.

About "Baccano!"... I give it 2/10 as well, there were moments were that went up to as much as 5/10, but it quickly found ways to get on my bad side again. Towards the end, I was really hoping that it would suddenly come together and at least go out with a bang, it left me disappointed and even more confused. The series as a whole feels pointless, it can be fun to just laugh at, but it is a total let down if taken seriously.

As previously stated, the majority of the characters were not likeable, and the voices were terrible. I think only Isaac's voice really fitted his character, and while I did find Miriam funny, I could not stand her voice. Also a character I actually liked got killed, for no reason, and they were supposed to be immortal. The music and animation was nice, it's definitely not an ugly series in either of those aspects, the voices and storytelling let it down.

It would constantly jump between scenes for the different character perspectives, and also across the different times, it happened so fast it honestly was hard to know what was going on. It could have been improved by sticking to one place in time for a whole episode, with just the character perspectives changing, but that is not what they went with unfortunately. The result is a mess, and I have not watched the specials yet, but after seeing episode 13 I don't think I want to.

There is the temptation, in the same way that there was the temptation to keep watching the main episodes, you just think my gosh this is so odd..what's going to happen next..ultimately, it is one of those shows that you wish you never started. That said, it is a rather short show, so it's no great loss of time. It is just disappointing, that there was clearly a lot of effort put into this anime, and yet the way it was executed has just totally killed it.

    Maken Ki

Pretty booby... i mean happy anime.

This one lacked reach but had plenty of flexibility.

The OVA had more MC development than the whole show.

    7/10

Now if you'll excuse me i have to get back to some calibrations.

    Baccano! 9/10
It was the first anime I added to my PTW list when I created MAL and I must say it was worth to take such memorable spot! Really amazing anime. If every anime had dubs as godly as this one, then I would be huge dubbed anime fan.

Even tho it starts really confusing, I'll stick with majority of people and say that it was a good move by the author. It certainly picked my interest. I had great pleasure to think of theories and see if I get them right or not... well at some cases I was really close but at others I was completely off. Seriously, very unpredictable anime and that's just another great plus for it.

The best part beside the great voice acting I would say was the selection of characters. Every single of them had unique personality traits (psychopath Lad Russo, crybaby Jacuzzi, comedians Isaac & Miria who I would dare to call as one being, emotionless Ennis and etc.). Really great choice of characters and I sort of had an issue with that a bit... Everyone of them were really appealing but having 12 (I think) MC's for 16 episodes aren't enough :| That's why I gave it a 9 instead of 10, because I wasn't completely satisfied. I still wanted to see more of some characters since they were all so awesome!

Now another superb thing that Baccano! has is music! Oh god... I really like classic OST in anime (Cowboy Bebop, Nodame Cantabile, Kids on the Slope, etc...). Baccano!'s OP is one of those rare ones that I never skip even tho I was marathoning it, I never skipped a single OP. It's just that good! Jazz theme completely hit the bullseye of this unique setting that happened in America in 1930's.

I can understand why some people could dislike it, but overall it's definitely a must seen anime. A very unique story setting with even more unique story execution and with unique characters that do look alike appearance wise but have their personalities different yet very appealing. It certainly is a very mindfucking anime but that's what attracted me the most. I enjoyed thoroughly all this forth & back in time jumps. Baccano! - an anime that contains great mixture of comedy, drama and action. With its excellent voice acting performance it's really something that can be appealing to any anime fan.

Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha Gaiden 9/10
Finally found time to completely finish DTB series. After watching this, I can understand about 2nd season a lot more. It was certainly great 4 OVA episodes about casual and not so casual life of Yin & Hei together. I did wish to see their "romance" go further than that, but I suppose I can't expect much from a contractor and a doll in such case, can I? :D Anyway, what really made me happy was that they were constantly changing clothes. It's nice to see characters in different clothes and it does make them look sometimes even cooler. For example, that outfit Yin wore in 3rd episode was DAMN HOT. Seriously great choice whoever thought of it! Anyway, why not a 10? Well simply because of the ending. It was simply stupid... felt really rushed. Oh yeah, I didn't like how they sort of made Hei look weak in these OVA episodes...

    Darker than Black Season 2
    6/10

Believe it or not I actually liked this more than the first season, which I was barely able to finish. As much as I appreciated the first season's atmosphere and visuals, it was painfully dull throughout large segments of the anime, in part because of its episodic presentation and focus on irrelevant/uninteresting characters a lot of the time. The second season fixes a lot of this by strictly keeping itself much more focused on the main characters and doing away with episodic side stories. However, the series loses a lot of its darker atmosphere and sense of style as part of the trade-off. Although this could be partially due to the new setting having taken place in Russia instead of Japan, but overall it's still a little disappointing that they couldn't keep the art more in line with the style of the first season which I preferred more. I liked the new main character added into the mix, Suou, but felt that for having such a badass contractor power (summoning a 50 caliber anti-tank rifle out of thin air), it was very under-utilized throughout the series and likewise Hei doesn't really get to use his powers hardly at all either, which made for the latter half of the series falling fairly flat on the action. Overall this is a mixed bag but I found it to be much more watchable than the first season because of a more consistent and focused narrative with a decent amount of character development.

Darker than Black 4-Part OVA Specials
    7/10

This was IMO the best of the DTB series, focusing on the two most interesting characters, Hei and Yin, while also having plenty of stylish fights, clever dialogue, and impressive twists. It's just too bad the rest of the franchise never maintained this level of quality. Wish I actually watched this before going into the second season as it would have made the sudden changes to Hei's characterization a lot more believable for me.

    About “Baccano!”… I give it 2/10

Holy crap, so I'm not the only one who thought Baccano! was generally a mess with unlikeable characters. Though to be honest I didn't find anything wrong with the voice acting as you said; I just thought its attempts to try and be unique by following a nonlinear plot didn't really work to its benefit. Glad I decided to drop this series I guess seeing as your opinion of it didn't change very much until the end either.

This one lacked reach but had plenty of flexibility.

Huehuehue... I see what you did there, C-Sec Officer.

Hehe, this Baccano stuff sounds like what happened with me and Hellsing. XD

    A Certain Magical Index II - 9/10
When I say 9/10, I mean only just getting there. Still has some really good things about it, but I just don't think it was quite as good as the original. There seemed to be an even bigger focus on the magic than the science than in season one (I suppose what do you expect for something with "Magical" in the title? XD), and I found myself getting a bit sadistic when they said what the Imaginary Numbers chick was being used for in this scene *sorta spoiler, but it doesn't really show anything*
And also, I thought that Touma's Imagine Breaker was even more of a Deus Ex Machina than it had been before. XD
Nonetheless, still a good universe and story and visuals and voice acting etc etc.

Monster - 10/10 Would be more than a 10 if i could give that.

A japanese doctor, a german hospital,a corrupt hospital director and a boy with a gunshot wound to the head. That's how it all started.
Imagine you are one of the best brain surgeons in the world. You are from Japan, your name is Kenzo Tenma. Because of your quality's, you are brought to Germany to one of the best hospitals in the world to learn new experiences and to bring them the quality they need to do big surgery's.
On a fateful day, a little boy with a gunshot wound to the head is brought in to the hospital and you are preparing to do surgery on him, determined to save the boys life. Just after the boy is brought in, the mayor of Dusseldorf is also brought in to the hospital and is in critical condition. You tell other surgeons to help the mayor because you have already prepared to help the boy. The director of the hospital calls and says this ''do surgery on the mayor because we cannot let him die yet, he is still useful to us, THAT IS AN ORDER!''. Evry bit of this smells like corruption and if you do what your boss says, the innocent boy will die. What do you do? Do you obey to keep your job, or do you ignore the director and do what any normal person would do? Right. Kenzo Tenma's life will never be the same again.
From this point on, i can't say more because i will spoil the hell out of evryone. The above is all from the first episode.
It's a psychological seinen thriller which brings a good man into the very depths of the underworld and goes way further than anyone could ever imagine an anime would go. It shows the true hell this earth has to offer, yet at moments, it shows happiness aswell. This anime truely has it all. Sad moments, happy moments, moments that make you want to watch 10 episodes in a row each time something happens.

Story: easily one of the best story's i have ever watched. Including real life movies and series. From episode one onwards, it never really drops in quality. Sure it has it's calm moments, but before you know it, hell breaks loose again. It's all put apart really nicely and i can say that i was never bored in this show. Right when you think it can't get any more intense, a super intense ending happens that made me, who doesn't like to watch more than 1/2 episodes a day of one show, watch from episode 65 to 74 in 1 day. I even stayed up to 4:30 AM to finish it.
One hell of a story i gotta say.

Characters: Amazing. Just amazing. Cannot give it a different word. The main character is someone we need more people to be like. Such a good man and he would never be able to stand doing people harm. Other than the main character, it has evry type of humans that exist on earth. Kind, corrupt, cold blooded killers, ''monsters'', but also very normal people who just live their lifes like most grown up people live their lifes in real life. Many characters get dragged into a terrible world, some lose it after seeing too much, some manage to keep their humanity. The characters and their development was all extremely realistic.

Art: In one word, realistic. Also very very realistic. It shows how people really are. The quality of my download wasn't always the greatest, so i don't wanna judge the art on that, and i do think the art was good. Different from other animes, but really good.

Well if you haven't watched this yet, and you don't mind a story that might make you depressed for a while, you should totally watch this.
Also, i suggest watching the dub. I'm sure the sub is good and all, but the dub is superb.

Weird... I thought I'd posted this here, but must have just typed it in Word when I didn't have internet...

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya – 10/10
Before I begin, this isn’t a review of the anime itself (I love so much of it that I don’t even know where I would start); rather, this is just a guide to choosing whether you should go dub or sub.
    1. The characters.
Haruhi: Even in my first watching of this, I did find dub Haruhi’s voice a little annoying. Whereas in my latest watching (sub), Aya Hirano voiced her beautifully. +1 point to sub
Kyon: It may just be my attachment to my original watching coming through, or it may be my inexperience in hearing the subtleties of Japanese voices, but nonetheless, I found dub Kyon to be much better than sub Kyon. Crispin Freeman just made him sound like more of a living character with his sarcastic tones, etc. +1 point to dub
Koizumi: Same as above, I just preferred dub Koizumi over sub. +1 point to dub
Mikuru: In my latest watching, I at first found Mikuru to sound better in sub, but as it went along, I kinda thought she was sounding worse. So… I guess that’s no points to either.
Yuki: I actually found her to be voiced just as good in both dub and sub. No points.

    2. Episode: Live Alive.
In this episode, there’re a couple of songs sung (though the second one is only heard for a few lines). As you’d probably realise, the lip movements were designed to go with the original song, so the dub song doesn’t sync up much at all. Furthermore, with Aya Hirano being a professional singer and all, she obviously sings it better than Wendee Lee. That being said, the dub song is still enjoyable, even though it’s not as good as sub. +1 point to sub

    3. Arc: Endless Eight.
Not going to give any spoilers here, even though you’ve probably seen memes giving it away, but I will say that the major point of this arc gives sooooooo much more of an impact if you watch it in your first language. If you’re like me, reading things like big numbers just sorta goes in one ear and out the other; but when you can hear and understand what the characters are actually saying, it just hits much harder than reading ever could. +1 point to dub

So yeah, those’re all the major points regarding dub vs sub. Tallying it up, dub wins. (In my opinion at least ;) )

Now, onto some actual anime reviews, and not just voices. XD

Daily Lives of Highschool Boys - 9/10
This anime was ridiculous, in a good way. The characters all had their own unique quirks, and interacted with each other in hilarious ways, which is what you should expect from a comedy Slice of Life. There were constant breaks in the 4th wall when they had the in-between segments, and I picked up on a few references to other anime. It gave me a sorta Nichijou-type feel, with the over-the-top reactions by the characters, except I could actually understand the majority of what they were going on about. My favourite skit would have been the “Scary stories” one, which makes it a shame they only did it twice in the whole anime. No complaints from the voice-acting. The animation was solid. And it’s good to finally see a Slice of Life like this where the main characters are majorly guys rather than girls. (What am I, a male version of a feminist? Though I am constantly saying about equal representation of male kittehs. XD)
Thanks for the recommendation, Super. ^_^

    BlazBlue: Alter Memory - 2/10
As you can probably tell from that score, this is now my second-most hated anime (I'm actually not sure whether I hate this or Deadman Wonderland more, so I'mma just leave it as second). When I started it, I was enjoying it, but mainly just cause it was BlazBlue. As it went along, I just noticed more and more things that made it bad and awful.

Story: Bad. Just bad. They took multiple campaigns worth of the game’s story, and crammed it down into twelve episodes. In fact, they took an entire campaign, and smooshed it into the first two episodes. Yet, they still found enough time to put in a swimsuit filler episode (don’t know if that was in the games or not). With all this compressing, a great deal of information is removed, leading to missing out on important parts that would better help you understand the characters’ motivations. Furthermore, the rushing of the plot just leads to a very unsatisfying experience overall.
And the ending. Don’t even get me effing started on the ending. Loose ends everywhere. “Who are these characters?” “What are those characters planning?” “What are these guys gonna do now?” You guys know how much I hate open endings like this *cough*Deadman Wonderland*cough*Code Geass*cough*; “We’ve left all these loose ends here for you, so now you have to watch the next season.” Yeah, no. When it’s bad to begin with, and then you do this, you can kindly get effed.

Characters & Setting: Of course these are still good; they’ve left them the same as I’ve seen in the games, and that almost redeems it a little. It’s a cool post-apocalypse universe, where there was a rampaging monster called the “Black Beast” which was stopped by six powerful heroes. Due to this rampage, the world is now contaminated by this noxious gas-type thing called “Seithr”, which forces all the inhabitants to live in giant cities, built up tall to escape the seithr on the ground. There’s also this fusing of magic and science into a power called “Ars Magus”, which is neat.
The characters’ stories all interact with each other, which is kinda cool. My love of Taokaka is still there, and I’ve also really liked Rachel and Kokonoe now. The bad thing here though, is that they don’t really give any decent fights to anyone except the absolute main characters, which is a real shame because a lot of them could have had some really really epic fights; I don’t even think Taokaka shows her claws anywhere except in the OP… :(

Visuals: At least here they knew what they were doing here. Some really solid animation, beautiful effects, and an (already) amazing art style. I didn’t notice any drop in quality in the fast-paced fights, and the magic glyph-thingies were quite spectacular to watch in action.

Audio: A sorta mixed bag here. There were a lot of bass-heavy sounds that didn’t cope well with my earphones, but the voicing was top-notch. Though, that’s as it should be, seeing as I’m pretty sure they used all the same VA’s as in the games. I find Taokaka’s voice and nyan-speak to be absolutely adorable, though I can see that’s not a very common opinion. I also found out that Tao (my fave BlazBlue character) is voiced by the same person who did Senjougahara (my most-disliked character in Monogatari), which is sorta amusing. Yay for nyan-speak! XD
The songs were good I guess. And I must see if there’s an HD creditless ED, cause I could screencap some really good wallpapers from that.

In closing, I suggest you avoid this anime. It’s just a waste of time. In the first episode, they were saying about they were hoping to break the trend of bad anime adaptations of fighting games, but it doesn’t look like they even tried. If you’re at all interested in anything about it, I highly suggest you look for the games instead; much better storytelling, no rushing, and really fun too.

P.S. An anime has to have a dub to have a page on this site, right?

Yeah @mafiacow. Guess to be consistent with the theme. Certainly makes the site unique. Nothing stopping you from reviewing a sub only anime in this thread though! At the very least I'll read it.

    Afro Samurai - 8/10

I completely underrated this. I thought it would be some joke anime without a story or whatever (sorry Afro :p), but actually it has a very good story with some touching moments.
The violence is pretty heavy and this isn't for a someone with a weak heart that can't watch people being sliced in half. Good thing i am a fan of this if it has a purpose. Which it did in Afro Samurai.

So the story was very good. It really sucked me into it, even though i drank alot while watching it. It had a solid story and it went by quickly. Means i really enjoyed watching this.

The characters were fun. Main character is a super overpowered badass who experienced a terrible thing when he was a kid. Which he sought revenge for when he became an adult.

The art was very unusual. Gray people. There were no white or black people(although the english dub made you think different with most of the cast being black actors, lead by Samuel L Jackson as Afro), just gray. Light gray, dark gray.
Also the way of drawing hair was really strange. However, i did like this art. It wasn't a turn off or anything.

I don't remember much from the music, but i enjoyed the OP. This and other stuff reminded me alot of Samurai Champloo.

Overall, i think this is a very good anime and a must see. It's only 5 episodes after all. I gotta say i think it deserved more episodes.

    Nyan Koi! - 6/10
To be honest, I was disappointed with this anime. It was alright, but I just had much higher hopes for it. It had some decent humour and some good references, but a few things brought it down, namely, my opinions in the last point of this review.
Story: Fairly average. MC breaks statue, gets cursed by it, has to do good deeds for cats, picks up harem along the way. Has quite a bit of romance in it too, which wouldn’t have bothered me much, if it weren’t the kind of romance that I hate! Honestly, I just can’t stand it when the pair are so nervous and awkward around each other that they’re constantly blushing and not being able to say anything! The ending was sorta open, but not the kind of open that I hate. This was sorta “We might make another season, but you can leave here if you don’t wanna watch.”
Characters: I guess they’re alright, but I found most of them a bit dislikable. (I’m actually using a wiki right now for most of their names, as they didn’t stick very well) Kousaka says he hates cats because he’s allergic to them, but can’t you get medication for that? He’s also half of the above pair. Kaede, she’s that one designed to be likeable in every way, and the focus of Kousaka; I found her to be quite irritating, cause she’s the other half of the above pair. Sumiyoshi was the one I found most likeable out of the MCs, but she was still a little bit annoying. Ichinose was the worst; she was just so over-the-top and her voice really annoyed me. The twins, however, were really good. I didn’t dislike Akari, the tsundere with the white ribbons. And Kotone, the stalker chick with the black ribbons, was probably my favourite character in the series. Hehe, Yuno. XD
Visuals: Nothing bad about anything here. Pretty standard animation and whatnot.
Audio: The voice acting was alright for their characters, but I still really didn’t like Ichinose’s (I went sub cause I was expecting nyaning). The music was pretty good though.
The “Kitteh Front”: If, like me, you’re going into this thinking that there’ll be a bunch of kitteh people cause of either the name or because of the following pic in spoiler, don’t fool yourself.
The details on kitteh people presence, if you don't want spoilers, ignore this spoiler and just read the sentence after the spoiler:
Outside of the opening theme, there’s one kitteh. He’s barely even there for one episode. While I am sorta glad for some male kitteh representation, it hardly even counts because of the sheer lack of screentime.
Advice to people going into this purely cause they want cat girls: Don’t even bother.

I didn’t like it as much as I could have, but I guess I could recommend it to anyone who likes harems or romance or something.

    Samurai Champloo: 7/10
Quite entertaining, had Bebop running through its veins all the way (Mugen and Spike have the same VAs after all), but just kinda missed the mark for being as memorable as Bebop. The art was good, a bit shaky at time, but mostly solid. The action was great, Mugen and Jin's fights were all tense. The story, on the other hand, was barely there, I know that's this directors style, but it didn't work as well as it did for Bebop.

All in all, I'm glad I watched it, but besides the occasional WTF moments that are trademark for these shows, the most memorable thing for me is that Fuu's pet has the same name as my bird. :p
