There is a strong difference between something being "hypothetical" and being a theory. It's a common misconception, people often don't understand what constitutes a scientific theory versus a "theory" that someone just comes up with.

Science deals in empirical evidence, and such evidence is required to ever get any traction. Still yet more and more evidence, research, and peer reviews are required to become a theory. In essence, if something is considered a scientific theory it's generally accepted as fact, as there is so much empirical (and that's the important word) evidence to suggest that such is the case. Theories explain how and why things happen, essentially. While laws are analytic statements/formulas that explain how certain things will behave.

In this way, science is not hypothetical. Hypotheses are hypothetical, and they're not accepted in any way shape or form without considerable testing.

Religion is based purely on faith, not empirical evidence. Historically, religion has cropped up in order to explain things that we, at the time, could not explain. And it's gone completely unchecked since its inception. I also feel that it has done more harm than good, throughout time.

Essentially, I feel that religion seeks to perpetuate itself, to ensure its own survival. Science seeks to prove nothing. Whatever the results are, it doesn't matter. The only goal is a better understanding of reality, regardless of what reality entails. That is to say, one has an agenda and the other does not.

That's about all that I'm willing to say on the matter. I'm usually up for discussing most things in-depth. But this isn't a conversation I'm willing to pursue any further, as it's not one that I've ever had the patience for. Not to mention, it's usually fruitless and only leads unpleasant and uncivil discourse.
