GKIDS and Fathom Events announced on Monday that they will screen Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke film in United States theaters for the film's 20th anniversary. The Ghibli-animated music video "On Your Mark," which has not previously been released in North America, will screen alongside the film.

Princess Mononoke will screen with English subtitles on Thursday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. local time and with the English dub on Monday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. local time.

GKIDS and Fathom Events are also presenting 15th anniversary screenings of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away alongside the short film "Ghiblies: Episode 2." The film screened with the English dub on Sunday, and will screen with subtitles on Monday and again with the English dub on December 8.

At the time of its release in 1997, Princess Mononoke was the most successful film at the Japanese box office. It remains the fourth highest-grossing Japanese film in Japan after Spirited Away, your name., and Howl's Moving Castle. It is the seventh highest-grossing film of all time at the Japanese box office.

Nearly two decades ago, Chage (Shuji Shibata) and Aska (Shigeaki Miyazaki) approached Studio Ghibli to make a music video for their "On Your Mark" song. The music video — which Hayao Miyazaki conceived, wrote, and directed — became an "experimental film" shown in theaters with Whisper of the Heart in 1995.

The short was removed from Miyazaki Hayao Kantoku Sakuhin-shū (The Collected Works of Director Hayao Miyazaki) Blu-ray Disc and DVD boxes in 2014 following Aska's arrest for drug possession that year. However, Studio Ghibli later offered the short on a bonus disc to box set buyers in Japan. The short was not included in Disney's The Collected Woks of Hayao Miyazaki box set.
