    I chose those two because they are exactly arch enemies and technically rivals in a sense.
    Naraku was a burned and paralyzed bandit who Kikiyo (inuyasha's lover) found and was taking care of. He fell in love for her but couldn't move so he made a deal with demons to fuse with them to gain a mobile body. Of course the demon part of him just wanted the jewel of ultimate power Kikiyo was guarding and tried to kill almost Kikiyo, frame Inuyasha for it, have them come to blows, and tried to take the jewel in the chaos. That failed and Kikyo sealed Inuyasha to a tree and burned herself with the jewel to seal it away.

    Now for the series itself (that was just backstory) Naraku is the main antagonist. So not only did they have feelings for the same woman but Naraku pretty much ruined inuyasha's life and Inuyasha wants nothing more than to kill him. So they are arch enemies and sort of rivals although Naraku's demon side wants no part of loving Kikiyo.

    Another good example of rival/arch enemy. Shishio took on the job of a man slayer after Kenshin but unlike him he was disposed of after they were done with him. In the end Shishio plans to basically start a war and is probably the greatest antagonist in the whole series. While they both started out similarly they end up with very different views with Shisio believing the strong feed on the weak and Kenshin believing pretty much the exact opposite.
