Zoro defeated my name's character, i should hate him, but he just too awesome and too skilled to hate. That should say enough about him. Also, Mafiacow who hates One Piece and it's characters called him one of the less dislikable characters. That says ALOT.

Now ordinarly this is where i yell ARMSTRONG and leave it at that, but considering that last match was close and Alex is up against Erza i will give a full argument here:

Now let me tell you why Armstrong is the better melee fighter. He does not really on swords clubs or other blunt weapons besides his own fists. His fighting style is comparable to a pro boxers and giving his Huge stature (not sure how big but i'm guessing at lest 6' 5") being able to move as fast as he does while still have incredible power in the lightest of his punches is a feat. And his power isn't magic derived nor des ex type its physical strength, he does use alchemy but mainly as a defense rather than an attack and that's only half the time. Alex's strength and vitality is on the homunculi level, taking hits that would kill or Knock out most with nothing more than a scratch and a little blood. And one last little note, he isn't called "The Strong Arm Alchemist " for nothing

Yes but while Erza uses magic to summon her weapons she relies on her strength and skill to fight and Alex does his his alchemy to fight quite a lot (He couldn't have defeated sloth without it). Also Erza has variety with at least 200 weapons and although at least half of those apre probably swords it means she can use pretty much any sword regardless of shape or size which is not as simple as you might think. Plus just look at these

If you can't follow what just happened here I'll explain quick. Erza parried a spear attack from her Edolas counterpart by holding her swords with her feet and doing and doing a spin kick. THAT is how good Erza is with a sword.

She is skilled enough to parry an attack with a spin kick while holding the sword with her feet. She is also quite agile (As seen in last GIF) which is extremely important for a Melee fighter. Because while Armstrong can take a hit he's still human and will slow down and fall eventually but with Erza's agility she could dodge and last longer in a fight as a result. Armstong is certainly not weak and he's fairly fast for his size but Erza is much faster and more agile. Plus because she can use so many different weapons she can fight various kinds of opponents while Armstrong can only rely on his strength. I think Armstrong is awesome but we're talking the best Melee character here not the strongest or most GAR character. Garch was last year.
