One episode is all I saw and assuming she doesn’t have a massive character derailment, that should be enough to state that as her baseline.

Exactly I saw several of the fight scenes and that was enough to get an idea of her skill with the sword. I don't need to see all the bath, boob, and gore scenes to get that. Plus I've seen most of Bleach so I do know his character quite thoroughly and what little I saw of her showed more proficiency with the sword than Ichigo ever showed. Thus all my points are still valid.

Well I..... you see......... in this case......... I just really like Kill la Kill! I'm still going to defend my choice. There is no question that in the end Ryuko is stronger than Kenshin but as I said previously myself it's about swordsmanship not brute strength. On the other hand Ryuko is apparently very good with the sword. Even before the start of the series she apparently rampaged around other schools while looking for clues. So she was apparently good enough with a blade to take on a gang. They don't mention any formal training so i'm guessing Ryuko is the self taught natural fighter type. Even during the series we see her match blades with Satsuki after both of them are powered up by their Gadarobe. Satsuki trained for years to be able to take down her immortal mother so you know she's good and their fights were rather good.

Kenshin on the other hand has formal training. Like a stubborn idiot he quit said training before finishing and only finished years later (If it only took a few more days to learn the last few techniques why didn't she just wait a while longer?). So Kenshin has a formal style which emphasizes speed above all else. The point of all the techniques in his style is to attack as fast as possible. However even by the end of the series fellow master swordman were able to dodge or block either because they were able to see it or they simply anticipated it. If you can deal with his speed you can apparently be a match for Kenshin as his style relies on being faster than his opponent.

Not we've seen Ryuko deal with some rather fast opponents so it's certain possible that she could handle his speed. So it comes down to his formal training and experience vs her self taught natural ability and experience. Kenshin is classic and I like him but it's not impossible to consider Ryuko being at least equally skilled.......
Also Spor would you let go already about effing Ichigo. He wasn't a good melee character and instead relied on energy slash attacks to fight while Saeko fights hords of zombies. It was for that reason people voted so just accept it. If it was only because of Favortism Ichigo would have been the more likely winner being from one of the big three shonen. Yes plenty of matches have shown favortism but in that case Ichigo lost for plenty of other reasons too.

I'm not going to argue against your vote. I've never seen Kill la Kill, so I can't really speak on that character. I'm just going to give some of my thoughts on Kenshin.

Even though he did leave his training early, he still managed to become the deadliest and most legendary swordsman of the revolution. That has to say something. And, years later after being somewhat out of practice, he still manages to kick everyone's butt in the show.

Though I'm not trying to argue about the canon of this, you are right that he kind of got the tables turned on him in that later part of the series. I've always just assumed that the writers did this because he is such an overpowered character being "the legendary man-slayer" that it's difficult to create any real struggle between him and another character that will, naturally, be less powerful and less skilled. Though I could be wrong.

Rurouni Kenshin remains within my top 5 anime of all time and probably will continue to do so, but I do have to say that I find it a bit disappointing how the series winds down toward the end and Kenshin starts having more difficulty overcoming his opponents, often, seemingly, due to no other reason than simply "reasons."

Also, apologies if I misspelled anything. My keyboard is having a bit of a fit today. =P

Not trying to say Kenshin isn't good. Because he is VERY good. But the thing is if you really think about it he relies a little too much on speed. Even his master said he was a bit weak in terms of strength. There was that one skill that they both used at the same time and the master won because he has the larger build. So Kenshin in fast but if you can manage to keep up with that speed then from what I remember he's kinda out of tricks. This style depends on surpassing the enemies speed. So I'm not saying he's bad in any way just kinda pointing out his one major flaw. If only Kenshin would do a little more strength training I think he could have beaten several of the guys he had trouble with much more easily. On a side note Zoro is kinda the opposite. He focuses on adding more and more power to his strikes and while he is getting faster and faster as well he really seems to prioritize strength and power over speed. He's not in this round but I just felt it made a good counter example that most people know.

......man I love Ryuko and wanted to see her to farther but you also gotta love classic Kenshin. But because of that I'm kinda torn between two characters I really like but I feel that Ryuko would be able to keep up with Kenshin or at least has enough natural skill to be able to react and block his attacks in time. After all during the time she lost Senketsu but hadn't tapped into her own life fiber power she was able to tear apart those guys in uniform rather quickly. So she's shown considerable speed and skill even when you take away Senketsu.

I can see what you're saying, but in addition to speed, his fighting style also relies heavily on anticipating his opponents movements. While strength certainly helps, Kenshin isn't really any less strong than any other swordsman he's just not super strong like his master, for example. Matching Kenshin's speed would a feet unto itself, but then you would also have to have manage to mask your movements and attacks from him.

So, I think that even if you managed to match his speed he would probably still have the upper hand due to being able to anticipate and counter the moves of his opponents. A good example of this was during his fight with Seta Sojiro. Even though Sojiro could easily match Kenshin's speed, once Kenshin could read Sojiro's movements and emotions and get inside his head, Sojiro lost the edge that his speed and swordsmanship had granted him.

Idk how he would stack up with Ryuko. Because, again, I've not seen Kill la Kill. =P

I think his physical strength is a little below the average swordsmans but I'll just move on from that. Regarding Soujiro it's true Kenshin's other skill in anticipation which is the key to his speed. Because he moves his blade so fast even he can't really follow his own blade. He plans where he wants it to go and anticipates where the enemy will be. But in Sojiro's case part of her problem was he wasn't actually all that skilled a swordsman. He had an incredible stepping tenchique which allowed him to move quickly but his actual sword tenchiques were fairly basic. All Kenshin had to do was read where he was going to be and the rest was easy. But to be fair he was still just a kid who had only trained for a short time. So it makes sense his battle instinct and sword ability were lacking. Also speaking of body movement I don't think Kenshin himself is all that fast. He can dodge about as well as most skilled swordsman but his speed is in his sword draws not his own feet.

This is what really gets him in trouble alot. For example Shishio wasn't nearly as fast an Kenshin but he had power, a cheap ass fire attack, and attacked relentlessly. If you can keep him on defense you keep him at a disadvantage because his skill is in drawing and slashing at blinding speed not dodging or blocking. He can still do those well but that isn't his best area so focusing on that is the way to get to him.

The other thing is Ryuko can apparently wield two swords rather well So while she might lose in speed with one sword they'd be much more even in terms of speed with her wielding two.

It's pretty obvious Kenshin is going to win at this point anyway but it's still nice to talk about the characters either way.

Even though I dislike Kenshin for reasons I don't know (haven't even seen his anime), I'm voting him cause a) Ryuuko pretty much just swings wildly, b) Ryuuko is pretty much a deus ex machina in her wins, and c) Spite for beating Band Girl.

Yeah that is really weird. I mean you're free to dislike Kenshin but if you haven't even seen his anime then what do you hate about him?

I DON'T KNOW. He's just a character who I haven't seen yet still find annoying...
