True but it's kinda depressing when you see such obvious examples of it. Sometimes I wonder why people even bother with these elimination games if they are just going to ignore the theme and turn this into a popularity contest. I'm not trying to be mean but it just seems like these games would be more interesting if more people voted for the best [blank] instead of their favorite or most mainstream. At least some people do that but I wish more would.

 

I like how, out of everybody who voted against Rakan, only one has seen Negima (and has barely started it).
Also, with Nagi and Negi, he is the most powerful man in the world.

Anyway no matter how much I like Saber, I kind of like Claire more and yeah, this was a bad character for Claire to go up against.


For the record the anime sucks but the manga is a million times better especially as the focus becomes much more action oriented and they go to the magical world instead of being at the school. Jack Rankan isn't introduced until after that point and he's an awesome character.

Have you seen Negima Ala Alba? I haven't, but I've heard it was about what happens in the magical world so I suppose you see Rakan in that anime, though there is no other season that introduces you to everything that happened in the manga before they leave for the magical world.

Since it's neither in your manga list nor in your anime list, I just assumed you were being rude.



The problem with that is not everyone has always seen both shows which the characters in any given round represent. In order for the games to happen like you suggested we’d have to make sure everyone is familiar with both characters, or simply have them not vote if there’s a character they don’t know. If that were the case these games would be even less eventful than they already are. And I guess that’s the point of doing them how we are. It’s the character DTR likes best from a certain theme. Nobody is saving that the winner of any of these games is, “the best of that type.”


I understand, even I, who has seen a bit more than fifty days of anime, only know fifteen characters in this game (17 in you include animes that I didn't finish), and in only three cases do two of these characters fight against each other in the first round, so I guess that anybody who has seen less than thirty days would barely ever get to vote.



Also, I knew it was a popularity contest, I just wanted to prove wrong those who said that Melee March would be more fair for the characters that aren't from popular animes than glasses March (I even think it's the opposite).

Even so at least an attempt to know the other character would sorta fix that. I'm not asking that everyone make the perfect descision every time or that they have complete knowledge of every character. I'm just asking that people at least try to know the characters instead of obviously just siding with the more popular or more well known character.

When ever there is a round where I don't know one or both characters I try to at least do a quick google search on each to find out who they generally are. also it's for that reason that people should defend their nominations with pics and background info. If more people did stuff like that and the other people listened then it could be more about "The best of that type" rather than just a simple popularity contest. Again I'm not saying people should put in hours of research or work but just a few minutes to get a general idea is better than nothing. I just spent a little bit looking these two up to get a rough grasp on their abilities.

I'm not saying everyone should agree with me but I just feel that the games would be better this way.

That is OVA though so I wasn't counting that. The Negima ovas are basically animated manga highlights. They don't really connect to each other and watching them is pointless if you haven't watched the manga since you'd constantly be missing stuff.

@metazoxan while i do agree with you that people should defend their noms and other should actually look into the characters a bit, it doesn't always help. good example recently would be the pervious match or touma's match, both had back info on the character but the more popular anime won, the best you can hope for is some people agrre and vote with you to save them if not you can always revenge vote (gunning for you ichigo......)

I chose Saber because she seemed stronger. She seems about as skilled with as word as they come and has some powerful magic abilities. Clare on the other hand lacks control over her greatest abilities from what I can tell including her “awakened form” which she apparently only used once and has failed to use it again. So while it seems Clare is not weak her lack of control means Saber is a stronger opponent and the better sword wielder.

Oh come on let's get real here. Clare's quick sword alone would make chopped sushi out of Saber in an instant. Her swings are literally so fast that you can't see their movement. Clare only starts to lose control when her powers have to be pushed to their limit; something that she wouldn't even have to do against Saber. Saber's only hope of winning would be to blow her noble phantasm right away and hope to hell she doesn't miss otherwise it's pretty much game over, because the moment Clare can close the distance on her, she's finished in a straightforward swordfight. She'd be decapitated before she even pulls the invisible sword out of its scabbard.

Even if by some chance Clare loses control, so what? She turns into an awakened being at which point she becomes even more powerful and then she'd just eat Saber. Yeah she might have sacrificed her humanity and sanity in the process, but she still technically wins.

Face it, if we're judging these competitions purely on the theme alone it would be boring, because someone could easily just nominate Goku and if everyone was being honest he would breeze his way to victory. You can't beat a legendary Super Saiyan with a power level so high that it can't be measured by scouters and carries enough destructive capability to destroy entire planets. I picked Saber because she's just a better developed character overall. Being true to a singular theme alone doesn't make a character good or deserving to advance as far as I'm concerned.

It wasn't purely cause popularity; I prefer Raildex to Bleach. I voted Ichigo cause I believe him to be the better fighter, with his leet swordsmanship.

Well it's not all just about brute power so Goku wouldn't easily win IMO because while he is obviously the strongest he is only the strongest because of brute power and energy attacks not his Melee skills. So Goku wouldn't deserve to win IMO for that reason. But what you were saying about a character needing to be good is also true. In the case where two characters are equally deserving to move on the better character should win. But if one character is much more fitting then IMO that takes priority. In this case both are apparently masters at the sword and the deciding factor is super powers and extra abilities. Since my knowledge is minimal I'll just have to take your word for it in this case. So I think I will change my vote this time.

Ichigo doesn't know any real swordsmanship he just swings his oversized sword around like a club and hopes he hits a vital or he uses Getsuga Tenshou and just tries to kill everything. In fact his reliance on a long range attack like Getsuga Tenshou makes him even less worthy of even being called a Melee character.
