MetaYep. Sorry Spor but TTGL just can’t be beat by a magical robot dragon that was only around for the end of an arc.
Yes, yes, we all know everyone has special tingly feelings in their no-no region for TTGL. I don't think anyone was questioning the validity of how over powered TTGL is. My vote is mainly based on it being my nomination and so we don't have a third entry from Gurren Lagann in the winners circle.

I loved Vandread, in fact I claim it to be 1 of 2 series that got me into watching anime and I have it on DVD and rewatched it numerous times since then 5-6 years ago, yet even though it means this much to me I have to vote Prime. I just can't go past the nostalgia of Prime

Glad to see you liked it despite not really being much of a mecha fan. It probably helped that there was really just one mecha and the rest were robots or Dreads. So it was more of a space adventure than a mecha. Whatever the case it really is a fun show. It's one of my first and most rewatched anime as well. Funny how we seem to agree a lot on stuff like this. Wasn't there another anime that helps get us into anime or am I getting mixed up?

Anyway I can't let vandread go without at least one vote. Not hating on Optimus but Vandreads needs a little more recognition.

@metazoxan, Yeah it was one of my first anime that I watched after learning about anime as a whole, so this was back before I had my preferences on what I liked. Also beginning it at school during class with friends helped make it even more interesting especially when you consider that it was my teachers DVD and the content of the humour. Good times.
My second series that got me into watching anime was Gurren Lagann so unless this is true for you also I don't think so. Kind of ironic that my first two series that made me search it were both mecha and now I don't particularly like the genre, but regardless these two shows always will hold a definite place as some of my favourites that I've rewatched numerous times.

No Gurren Laggan was later in my anime veiwing life. Must be thinking about someone else. But maybe part of the reason you liked those and not other Mecha is because this are different from say a gundam series. Gurren Laggan overshadows everything with pure insanity and Vandread is more about space battles against a powerful foe while racing to reach home before them than Mecha fights. So those are both shows that I would suggest to someone even if they aren't really Mecha fans. I'm not sure what parts of Mecha anime you tend to not like but both of these simply work in a way that is hard to hate.So The vandread DVD was your teacher's and you watched it during class? If I understood that right then I wish I had your teacher. What class was it?

That could be right, mecha fights wasn't the only aspect to look forward to in either of them so it does sound like a reason for why I'd enjoy them that much [comedy and when/where I began watching them included], although being new to anime at the time I think must of also helped a great deal.
I don't know why I don't really like Mecha now, some are good like the new Suisei no Gargantia which didn't rely on fighting but for the most part since watching them plus FMP I haven't really cared too much. Never got into gundam and code geass was too overhyped as being great plus it was spoiled for me [still haven't seen the 2nd season].

Yep you understood that right, it was my art teacher and he watches anime [or use to no where near as much as us]. So during the slower times he'd bring in some anime and we'd watch it for a couple of lessons near the end of the term. Vandread was his DVD and we saw Metropolis this way too, then later on we'd bring in our own which was when I saw Gurren Lagann and Appleseed which both belonged to a friend of mine.
It was an awesome class, discussions about whatever random stuff from daily lives along with video games and movies hell basically anything was open for discussion in that class. And yet we'd still get work done too, this is what the educational system needs teachers like that.
