The Shinjuku Piccadilly theater in Tokyo will host a double screening of both the main film and the three-episode series on July 30. The screening will feature some staff and cast in attendance.

The film ranked at #2 in its opening weekend, selling 742,254 tickets to earn 982,291,500 yen (US$8.78 million) in its first four days. The film had the highest opening two days of any Japanese live-action film in 2017 so far. The film's total box-office earnings are expected to surpass 5 billion yen (US$44.7 million).

Yūichi Fukuda (live-action HK/Hentai Kamen, Mr. Nietzsche in the Convenience Store) directed the film and penned the script. The film stars Shun Oguri as Gintoki Sakata, Masaki Suda as Shinpachi Shimura, and Kanna Hashimoto as Kagura.

The net show features the same cast and staff as the film, and adapts the original manga's "Mitsuba Arc." Kii Kitano plays Mitsuba.
