Well... that could be a good question. I'm no good with science. They say teleportation is working. it hasn't been tried on anything big yet but we could teleport the sun into the black hole if it does work or something...

..... i'm ok with science and just came to a question, what would happen to the solar system if the sun just vanished?

Well based on Mafiacow's quote, it wouldn't matter... However, the correct answer would be... the balance would be out of whack. I suppose it could just evolve without the sun after a few years...

I'm not so sure, i got some simulation software at home, I will give it a run and check later. (at work right now)
still to preserve life I think a Dyson Sphere is the way to go

Negative utilitarianism is the perfect form of morals. If one ceases living, they will be unable to experience suffering. So, the most righteous thing that anyone can do is kill everyone at once, preferably without pain.

Ouch. My place was reaching the 40s the other week, but now it's just getting cool.

    Let's see...
The centre of gravity would likely be greatly shifted and lose an immense amount of strength. Thus, all planets would go off on orbital tangents from where the sun used to be, with likely very slight pulls from the other planets.
With no heat source, the planets would start cooling. I'm can't remember how long the cooling is theorised to take. During this, higher life would die of cold, and the surface would probably freeze over. Micro-organisms would be able to survive deep underground (and near thermal vents in oceans), insulated by the frozen surface and heated by Earth's molten core.

Earth itself would drift in space until it either orbits a new star or gets destroyed by something.

Oh, and I am totes up for a Dyson Sphere!~ I love those things~ :3 (Plus, be nice to leave a gift for any other space-faring species to discover, if we don't aim for destroying the universe too, which I am)

Why don't we just ship the fussers off to mars? Must be much easier than destroying or misplacing a sun.

hey hey hey hey... we're not fussing. It's called survival. we're only eradicating what's killing us. We're doing the world a favour.
@Mafiacow I may need your help here.

There is the option of losing all the clothes...
But lets get back on track to removing the sun. Suddenly doing so may cause the solar system to just fly away in all directions.

About losing all the clothes? People already do that
Or, if you refer to the whole sun removal, it would just take a whole lot effort. Might be easier to integrate a giant engine on the planet and fly away. Or build a giant ceiling in place of a sky.

Hmm... So what you're saying is... we build walls and ceilings that cover the whole entire Earth? I just add air conditioning.

living in a tropical climate, i can deal with the heat. i even welcome it (minus the idea of water shortage coz that would really suck). i only complain rain. gosh i hate rain. i hate it because i have to bring an umbrella. i have said it way too many times in this thread already.
