Cygames announced during a stage and live-stream event on Sunday that the anime adaptation of its Granblue Fantasy smartphone game is a television anime series titled Granblue Fantasy the Animation. The series will premiere in January. The anime's official website began streaming the show's first promotional video on Sunday.

Yuuki Itoh (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid) is directing the anime at A-1 Pictures, and Toshifumi Akai (Kokoro Connect, Sound of the Sky) is designing the characters. Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy games I-XI) and Tsutomu Narita (Final Fantasy XIV composer and arranger) are composing the music. BUMP OF CHICKEN will perform the anime's theme song.
