    I'm a college girl and my one of my guilty pleasures is harem animes, I loved Yamada and The Seven Witches, Is This A Zombie and Rosario Vampire. When I'm doing homework I always turn on a harem anime for watching/background noise. So I was wondering if its weird for a girl to like harems since whenever I bring it up to people at my anime club I usually get some raised eyebrows and thinking i'm weird for liking harems.

    @Liana I wouldn't exactly say it is weird for a girl to like harem series. A large part of the harem is comedy, which let's face it who doesn't like to laugh? So if that is your reason you're good.
    Harem series usually have a bad reputation in the first place. Simply because they are harems. With similar writing and only so many cliche's they can throw into it there isn't the most room to expand the harem genre further by itself.

    It could be seen as weird if you like it for the fact that the guy has multiple girls drooling over him. Or if you happen to say that you like School Days.
    But at the end of the day to each their own.

    I'm a horror and supernatural anime fan originally, but I can't get enough of idols and homey slice of life shows.
    And just look at Jojo's. It is masculine but overly camp while being aimed at males. Somehow opposites do attract and it is true for this medium as well. It's part of what makes anime so much fun.

    @Liana
    If you, yourself don't find it weird then its not weird, I don't think there is a specific definition for weird in my humble opinion it varies from person to person. I believe as long as your action or likes/dislikes are not hurting other then it is completely fine. I think it is not weird personally for u to like them , i think its the fun part not the harem that even we boys enjoy, Honestly if we boys take this harem stuff seriously we would be sooo jealous of the MC and would never watch the show ( weird right XD) , In my opinion even we boys are watching for the fun part aka Fanservice OPPs i mean the jokes yeah trust me honestly XD. So if you enjoy them and dont find them weird its not weird

    @Supernatural-Knight
    Hahaha this cracked me up , lol

    If you'd like to know whether it was harem or if harem was just a byproduct of the anime you like, try this:
    • List of all the anime you've watched on paper, word document, or other preferred method of making notes. Alternatively, My Anime List might do the trick and make it faster to create that list.
    • Separate the anime you liked and didn't like.
    • List all the genre for the anime you liked and didn't like.
    • Compare the list of genre that went along with the anime you liked and didn't like and see if harem was the highest in common or if it was something else.
    You might find it wasn't harem (if there was a large dislike of harem anime) but perhaps a different genre that influenced what anime you liked that had "harem" as a part of it's genre, especially if out of all the anime you watched and liked, it turned out to be more comedy than harem.

    Also, sometimes someone might watch something that isn't common in the real world and that could also be a factor in your decision to watch an anime with a harem in it. I can already tell you that the 3 you mentioned all have comedy in them, so it's possible that it wasn't harem, but comedy that attracted you to those three anime. Creating that list would reveal what genre you're most interested in and maybe what genre you liked the least and whether harem was the leading genre or just a byproduct.

    Regardless of your findings though, only you can say whether it's weird for you yourself to like harem anime. Everyone has different tastes, whether they're minor or major.

    If you find joy in watching it, then why care what others think? If you went by someone else's standards, then you wouldn't have such joyful tastes. In the end, if you like it, then that's good. Weirdness is good, it means you have an extent of uniqueness compared to other people, otherwise if everyone was normal, this would be a boring world.

    @Liana its not weird as how i see it. heck its even normal based from what my female friends and cousins watch. of the popular ones (here that is) like clannad, love hina, negima, all they care about is the good looking/cute helpful MC. harem for the most part, as what @Supernatural-Knight said, is a rom-com and gets quite a share of female audience. so for me, its not that kind of strange.
