Discotek Adds A Wind Named Amnesia, Pilot Candidate, Soul Hunter Anime

Discotek Media announced on Friday that it has licensed the A Wind Named Amnesia anime film as well as the Pilot Candidate and Soul Hunter television anime series. Discotek Media plans to release all three anime on June 28. The company added that its release of Pilot Candidate will include the OVA that Bandai Entertainment did not previously release in the U.S.

Discotek also announced that it will release the complete original Dino Mech Gaiking anime series on June 21, and that it is "trying for a July release" for Beelzebub Part 1 (which will contain episodes 1-30). The company also revealed the cover for its DVD/Blu-ray Disc combo release of Lupin III: Voyage to Danger.

Kazuo Yamazaki (Maison Ikkoku, Urusei Yatsura, City Hunter: The Motion Picture) directed and wrote the screenplay for A Wind Named Amnesia at Madhouse. Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust) and Kenji Kurata also collaborated on the screenplay. The film originally debuted in Japan in 1990, and Central Park Media previously released the film on VHS and DVD in North America. The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where an unexplained wind caused all of humanity to lose their memories.

The 12-episode Pilot Candidate television anime series originally aired in 2000, and it adapts Yukiru Sugisaki's Candidate for Goddess manga. Mitsuru Hongo (World Trigger,Outlaw Star) directed the series at Xebec and Production I.G. Bandai Entertainment previously released the series on DVD, and the series also aired on Adult Swim.

The story takes place in the distant future, where humankind expanded and colonized other planets, but the alien species Victim has taken over all of the colonies leaving only one inhabitable planet left, Zion. Humankind sets up a training school called GOA in an effort to stop Victim from destroying Zion. At the school, boys from the Zion colonies train to become pilots of the Ingrids, or The Goddesses, which are five fighting robots used to protect Zion. The one-episode OVA shipped in Japan in 2002, and it retells the show's story from the point of view of one of the Goddess Pilots.

Tokyopop released Sugisaki's original five-volume manga in English.

The 26-episode Soul Hunter television anime series originally aired in 1999. Junji Nishimura (Kyo kara Maoh!, Dog Days', Bakuon!!) directed the series at Studio DEEN. ADV Films previously released the series on DVD.

The anime adapted Ryu Fujisaki's 23-volume Hoshin Engi manga, which is itself roughly based on the ancient Chinese novel Fengshen Yanyi. The fantasy manga and anime takes places thousands of years ago. An evil sorceress has bewitched the emperor of a powerful dynasty and he has become a mindless puppet. The country is in shambles and evil spirits lurk everywhere. The Confederation of the Immortal Masters plan a bold mission: they send a young master wizard to hunt down the villains and evil warlocks in the devastated lands.
