The July issue of Shueisha's Jump Square magazine revealed on Friday that D.Gray-man Hallow, the new television anime of Katsura Hoshino's D.Gray-man manga, will have six total DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases. The official website for the series lists that the first release will have three episodes and the other five releases will each have two episodes, for a total of 13 episodes.

The site also added on Friday that Hoshino will draw jacket illustrations for the home video releases.

The anime will premiere on July 4.

Yoshiharu Ashino (Tweeny Witches, Cross Ange, First Squad) is directing the anime at TMS Entertainment, with scripts by Michiko Yokote (Shirobako, Prison School, Dagashi Kashi), Tatsuto Higuchi (My-Otome, Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman, Schwarzes Marken), and Kenichi Yamashita (Koutetsu Sangokushi, Ishida and Asakura,Actually, I Am…). Yousuke Kabashima (The Girl Who Leapt Through Space, Lord Marksman and Vanadis) is adapting the character designs for animation, and is also serving as chief animation director. Yasuhiro Moriki(Ninja Robots, Crest of the Stars, Bakuon!!) is credited for design. Kaoru Wada is returning from the previous D.Gray-man anime to compose the music.

Rock band Lenny code fiction will perform the anime's opening theme, and Mashiro Ayano (Gunslinger Stratos: The Animation, Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works) will perform the ending theme.

So you mean to say that after all the years of waiting that all the fans have done that this long awaited sequel is only going to be 13 eps big? That is a bizarre move.
Since I've only recently watched it I don't really care but surely this is disappointing news for long time fans of this franchise.

Yes from what I can dig up this has been confirmed. So after all the years of waiting 13 eps is all it's going to be. Still I think I can understand the reason why though. The manga is so slow in terms of updating or progressing. Doing more than one cour (a unit of production in Japanese TV programs equivalent to 13 episodes) would mean running out of material and throw us back into filler like it's first counterpart. Don't get me wrong I'd love for more episodes, but not at the expense of a large sum of filler. The other thing that may attribute to this is due to TMS having so many projects this year as well. Their taking on a lot so maybe their only doing a single cour for now and we'll get a second next year. That's what my hope is anyway. My other hope is that maybe these episodes on the dvd's run like 45 minutes such as Hellsing Ultimate. Because 2 episodes per disc seems like a monumental rip off. Till then we wait for it's release and hope it's good.

I think 13 episodes is a smart decision for the studio. After so many years, we don't know how popular DGM will be and going for a big investment with such risk is not worth. They can always just make more sequels if everything goes well. All I want is that they don't rush and adapt manga without putting in original stuff.
