Media distribution service Crunchyroll announced on Friday that it will stream the Persona 5 the Animation -The Day Breakers- television special. The first half of the special will feature interviews with the cast and staff and the second half will be an original animation that recounts the prologue story of the young thief organization at the center of the game. Crunchyroll did not confirm if it will stream both halves.

Unlike the game's opening animation, which is animated by Production I.G, the special is animated at A-1 Pictures. Takaharu Ozaki (director of photography on Occult Academy, Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW) is directing the animation at A-1 Pictures. Shinichi Inotsume (Yona of the Dawn, Gangsta.) is writing the script and Toshiyuki Yahagi (Joker Game) and Keita Matsumoto (Bungaku Shōjo) are adapting the character designs for animation.

The special will premiere in Japan on September 3 from 7:00 to 7:55 p.m. on Tokyo MX, followed by airings on Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11.

The latest entry in the Persona role-playing games will ship for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on September 15 in Japan, and on February 14, 2017 in the Americas. Atlus will offer the American release in a "Take Your Heart" Premium Edition that includes a soundtrack CD, a Morgana plush, a hardcover art book, a steelbook, and a school bag. The game will also be available in a SteelBook Edition.
