    How is that remotely an implication towards that? I'm implying the other pair had the more obvious brotherly bond. As opposed to the two arrogant dudes that do nothing but argue, bicker and fight amongst each other.

    Alright, so before we get into that, you need to have an idea of the way the world of Sengoku Basara works. It's the kind of place where warfare isn't just something people do, it's a way of life. Crashing into your opponent's camp, killing a bunch of their soldiers and holding a blade to their throat is more or less how people say "hello" to each other. It's definitely a warrior culture if you've ever seen one.

    Keeping that in mind, let's talk about Yukimura and Masamune. They're rivals, and not rivals like you normally see in anime, these guys really give it everything they've got. As in, they would kill each other if they had the chance. But that's not because they hate each other, just the opposite, they fight because they have the utmost respect for each other and want nothing more than to have a fair duel and a clear victor. In the world of Basara, there is no greater bond than to have a worthy rival and that's what exactly Yukimura and Masamune see in each other, to the point where they don't see anyone else as "worthy" of defeating their rival. You would see what I mean by this if you saw Masamune's reaction when he thought that Yukimura was killed off by Hideyoshi (sorry for the minor spoilers).

    This explanation probably isn't enough because you kind of have to see it for yourself. They get along great, even though they love fighting each other. They've worked together fantastically on multiple occasions to defeat powerful opponents, but they don't have that same glimmer in their eyes as they do when they're fighting each other. In any other anime, they would probably just be the best of friends. But in the world of Basara, they fight because they care, because they respect each other, because it's the only time they feel truly alive. That's why in their own way, they're definitely hardcore bros.

    Have never seen Sengoku Basara but Saint Seiya was the first anime I ever watched. What seals it for me is multiple parts that define how much Ikki cares about Shun and would essentially do anything to protect him, fight along side of him and even die if needed. Shun was a weak, nimble child who often required the aid of his older brother to defend him from harm. Even as a saint, Shun would end up in predicaments that demanded Ikki's attention. When a young Pandora came to abduct baby Shun and Ikki protected his body with his life, or when it was reveled Ikki was the human incarnation of Hades, Shun still did what he needed to do.. Long arduous fights and conflicts helped cement the decades long relationship between the two brothers. Something more significant than the typical bond they share as Saints, brothers of the cosmos.
