The official website of Death Note Light up the NEW world, this year's live-action Death Note sequel film, began streaming a video on Thursday for Death Note NEW GENERATION, the live-action prequel mini-series for the film premiering on Hulu Japan on Friday, September 16. The video previews footage from all three episodes in the mini-series, and features Namie Amuro's song "Fighter," which will be the mini-series' theme song. The same song will appear as an insert song for the film itself.

The site reveals that the mini-series' second episode will feature the character Near, who appears in the Death Note manga and anime. The site also reveals the name of the "Golden Shiningami" that appears in an earlier trailer for the film as Pepo. The character will appear in both the series and the film.

Masahiro Higashide, Sousuke Ikematsu, and Masaki Suda, who play the characters Tsukuru Mishima, Ryūzaki, and Yūki Shien in the film, respectively, will be the focus of the mini-series. The first episode, "Shinsei" (Rebirth), will center on Mishima, showing how he was selected as the ace of the Death Note task force. The first episode will premiere on September 16. The second episode, "Ishi" (Dying Wish), will focus on Ryūzaki, showing the incident that led him to the Death Note task force, and reveals his thoughts about L. The second epsiode will premiere on September 23. The third episode, "Kyōshin" (Fanaticism), focuses on Shien and the trauma he carries. The third episode will premiere on September 30.

The new film will then open in Japan on October 29.
