Yep, you're in good company now. Katsura's Corolla was something else. Only for Elizabeth to ruin that. Otae's was too damn strong for no reason. It was a good way to finish the comedy arcs.
I'm definitely missing Shigeshige, but it is good to see Sorachi using Nobunobu the same way.
Do I still love anime? Who knows, for better or worse I'm sticking with it, watched it all day today and I'm still not caught up with my new releases. Ah, not sure if day wasted or well spent.
I'd like to see the anime cafe come back, but activity is a huge problem. I would even be somewhat lax since I've got a bit to do already. Not sure if I could watch another series that won't end up getting talked about.
Haha yeah I'll have to watch it, I usually watch sequels even if I complain the whole time. But I do that all the time with anime. I watch other stuff because I know I can't just stay invested in a single series.
Man Uchuu Kyoudai was great. Should I give up hope for more and just start the manga as well? Not sure I could enjoy it as much though.
I haven't heard anything about Does in a while, I really wish they'll come back so that they can be used for the Silver Soul Arc. It isn't Gintama without Does, they have to appear one last time. I'd also like more SPYAIR but Does takes priority.
Yep final Gintama season. It is sad but I am hyped for more every week. I could go for another long running series. Although by this point in time it'd be mostly filler.
Oh there were spoilers in there, I didn't realise how many eps you were behind for One Piece. Not too many were past where you are at but yeah probably a good decision. If it helps I'm actually enjoying it again. They have done some good episodes recently revolving around Sanji so that catches my attention a lot.
Nobunobu is actually becoming slightly likeable. Since Gintama is based on 19th century Japan with the shogun, shinsengumi and samurai etc.. this make a nice link, i was reading about Hijikata Toshizo, the real person who Hijikata is based on. He dies towards the end of the Edo period charging into battle for his country and the Shogun. What are the changes of Hijikata dying like this in Gintama?
Currently i would say not a big chance but this was a thought that crossed my mind. They have done the beheading of Kondo, although they didn't succeed, this actually happened to the real Kondo.
Also, a character in Rurouni Kenshin named Shinomori Aoshi is also based on Hijikata. It's thanks to Rurouni Kenshin mangaka Nobuhiro Watsuki that i know that.
My ''love'' for sports sometimes makes it feel alot like work trying to follow the things i want to follow. I'm way to serious about that stuff. Even though it feels like that i still love doing it. Is it something like that for you with anime? If so, i'd say you do still love it.
Yeah that's the problem. The elim games won't reach 32 noms anymore unless everyone gets way too many characters to nominate. The asylum game sometimes has 2 or 3 people in a row not responding.
Since i already gave in to reading the manga, it's easy for me to say yes. It's up to you ofcourse, but how long has it been since the anime ended on episode 99? Imo there's little hope or they must have announced something without me knowing.
Even if it comes back it might be years till then. The manga is really easy to read. Since it's quite realistic, it gives the same good feeling the anime does and even the jokes are as good. Only bad point would be no sounds on some of the jokes. Still funny though.
One Piece is another one of the manga i started reading. I decided to start right after the marineford arc so i can get back into it before getting to the parts i haven't watched yet. Haven't yet decided if i'll pick up the anime after catching up.
No, don't you dare ask that. No more deaths. I knew real Hijikata died, I did the same searching the history of them. But I don't want to think Sorachi will kill him.
While Kondo wasn't beheaded they did kill Sogo's sister with something similar to what killed him in history. So maybe parts of history are used the way Sorachi likes?
I guess it kind of is for anime. Although I don't like everything I watch, and I watch a lot of stuff because well known studios do them. But it is hard to like everything obviously. I hear a familiar voice or watch stuff a good studio does and I get somewhat happy so you may be on to something. But I do also think I spend way too much time on anime....
Yeah the forums are quite slow, when something as easy as voting is ignored then there are problems. Sure not everyone can log in daily, but to have so many turns missed in asylum games, even when tagged so they could possibly get an email, is just disappointing.
It has been almost 4 years since Uchuu Kyoudai ended, wow.I know I didn't start it immediately but damn, we were discussing that weekly for a while. I kind of doubt it'll get another series. It did get that movie which is subbed now and the live action movie as well. So it was well enough received but after this much time I am definitely losing hope. Still not being a manga fan probably won't help me pick it up.
Gintama's manga hasn't ended yet, it will very soon though according to posts. I wonder after it ends if we'll see Sorachi make another noteworthy series? Farewell Gintama, may the Silver Soul arc be amazing.
Haha, One Piece is that long I don't remember which arc Marineford was. But reading the manga is meant to be the best option because Toei is adapting something around a chapter an episode, absolutely terrible pacing problems in some eps.
Not that I'll read it. You should watch it for some of those amazing VAs though.
Hehe. It would befit him to do something like that when in his eyes the world is going to end. Thinking about it, the real Hijikata and Hijikata Toshiro are really alot alike.
Hijikata couldn't live in a world without war and samurai so he died for a shogun who had abandoned his position to survive it all. I doubt he would die for Nobunobu though. It would have to be for Shigeshige. Well it's extremely unlikely anyway. I didn't read about the real Sogo(yet).
Yeah he definitely uses his own kind of history. Obviously neither Shigeshige nor Nobunobu excisted, but he did use the Tokugawa family name. Just think about how much research he must have done to create all these characters. And then think up a fictional backstory for them.
These days alot of people probably spend more time on netflix than you do on anime though.
I do like the activity in the elimination games since i started tagging people. It's really helping.
Is there going to be a February asylum game?
4 years... damn. The popularity isn't suprising to me at all. It's just so good and interesting. I have learned most things i know about NASA/JAXA and space from Uchuu Kyoudai. But if it's so popular why did they end the anime. I'd rate it top 10 worst decisions ever in anime.
I see. Saying ''******** Gintama'' kinda hurts my eyes. It should be said censored in Gintama style. I wonder if he'll do that. I'll instantly watch it no matter the genre. It might be nice for him to spend some time with his family though after all these years.
The battle at Marineford, with the Whitebeard crew against the marines. Some major events happened there xD Currently in the fishman island arc but it's as boring as i remembered it was. The build up was great but the arc is boring. I remember it being that slow, everyone was complaining about it. I might actually do both. Keep reading and watch the anime like i do with The Walking Dead comics and tv serie.
I just don't want to watch a character that we've watched for more than 300 episodes die for the final act. It would have a lot of impact sure, so I'd kind of welcome it as a development. But at the same time I'd absolutely hate it. Too sad.
There are quite a few anime that are based on historical figures/events. I'd imagine its the same for all of them. I'm sure bending it however they like makes history seem much more interesting to them. But I'd agree, Sorachi would have to have a passion for this theme. Making their backstories might have been the best part.
Yeah constantly tagging people seems to help, I know I check it regardless but for others a reminder is nice. This month seems to be getting a good reaction from everyone too.
I really doubt there will be an asylum event for Feb now. Unless something is hastily thrown together. But given how badly events do with plenty of time to organise them do, what's the point?
Well if Sorachi is as good as we hope he is, he should be back to creating stuff in a years time at most. There have been a couple of noteworthy mangaka that finished long running series to immediately start others. We just have to hope Sorachi can create another hit big enough to get animated again.
One small problem is that his stuff that wasn't Gintama that I've read wasn't that good.
Yes please keep reading and watching One Piece. I like it a lot more now than I have over the last couple of years watching it. I've been fairly disappointed for far too long so it is a huge relief to see I can still enjoy it.
Fishman island was a bad arc, I couldn't stand it. Way too slow. Manga was said to be better because not quite as slow. Do you agree?
''I am not going to battle to win. With the Tokugawa government about to collapse, it would be a disgrace if no one is willing to go down with it. That is why I must go. I will fight the best battle of my life to die for the country.''
Hijikata's words when he went into his last battle. I imagine him as badass in real life as he is in Gintama. He was also called the demon vice chief(Oni no fukucho) in real life. For him to actually follow the real events, the Shogun would have to abandon his position first. I do agree with you, i have mixed feelings about this too. If it comes i'll just take it as it is.
Going on about Gintama. I absolutely loved Katsura in episode 6.
So you did actually check out Sorachi's other work? Sometimes it is like this. An author needs a series to click with him to make it work. And usually if that happens it becomes really good like Gintama has.
Yeah the activity has been good. I hope to pull that through to next month.
I did enjoy the snowball fight and i think i wasn't the only person who did. It just took a little long. I still keep hope of real activity coming back to JD one day xD
I do somewhat agree but it's still abit boring. I really really dislike Hody Jones. He's a terrible villain who wants to be like Arlong but doesn't even come near. This part has been digitally colored though by the scanlators, that's pretty nice.
Those were Hijikata's last words? I will be keeping an eye out for them in the future episodes now that I know. I expect Sorachi to throw them in there and bend them in some twisted manner.
But this might just be me saying how could he possibly kill him now, once more. Positive thinking.
To be the demon vice chief he'd have to be just as bad arse. Hell to live life through such a time successfully they'd all have to be pretty damn tough. Probably why we love watching these types of shows.
Oh my god, episode 6. Where do I even begin. Gengai being that emotional, Tama and Kintoki.... I may have had manly tears. More shinsengumi goodness. The rest of the gang being shown to come help, Jirocho included. Katsura was just the icing on the cake with his cloaking and his poop. He always cracks me up.
MADAO being protected as an underdog by a former client. What a bloody episode.
I didn't really check out Sorachi's other works, just some one shots. They weren't all that funny nor were they bad arse. Average or fine at best is how I'd describe them. True manga is much harder to impress me but still. I only read two but they were long and didn't feel like they did much. Can't remember which since MAL merged them all into Gintama. I think one was called "13"
The snowball fight only took too long because for the day waiting period. I was about to cut it down to 12 hours but realised I couldn't host it by myself anymore with the work schedule. I wonder what the next game will be.
The only way for real activity to start is for everyone to start posting in all random threads. It'd help if a few of us spammed the forum,
You know, I hated Hordy Jones. he was a terrible Arlong rip off that was meant to be stronger since he stayed in the new world. He was pure crap. I hated that whole arc. The next one was okay but too long, the arc after that I hated. But the current stuff I can say I'm actually enjoying One Piece again. After years of disappointment I am genuinely enjoying almost every episode.
Yes when he went into battle. His actual last words were to his ''student''. A young guy of 15 or something who receiced his sword and a letter to deliver to Hijikata's friend. The boy traveled a long way through Japan to actually deliver it months later. The words he told him were his real last words.
Exactly. I am very thankful for that period of Japans history. The Sengoku period and the Edo/early Meiji period are just so interesting. And you will still find the same determination and discipline with many people in Japan.
I can't really talk about Gintama right now cuz i'm still a few episodes behind. Was sick for a few weeks and i couldn't bring myself to even watch Gintama. You'd think i had all the time for it xD I don't mind watching multiple Gintama eps in a week though.
What i did want to say is, i was reading the Rurouni Kenshin manga, and there's this segment every once in a while where mangaka Nobuhiro Watsuki talks to his readers. Happened somewhere in the 90s, but at one point he said there was an anime coming out for Rurouni Kenshin and now it's at a point where the first filler arc starts.
I thought he was going to say he wouldn't like it, but he said he was very interested in what other people can do with his story and characters. I thought reading a mangaka's opinion on filler was quite interesting. Although it might be different for each mangaka.
That's understandable and probably the problem most of us will experience these days. Not having the time to get it moving faster. Speaking of games, i think Ancient April is going to be alot of fun. First time we're going to do this, if it actually wins.
I got through the fishman Island arc now. It was fun apart from the Hody Jones part. Which was very short proving what i remembered of him being a weakling. Man this villain was terrible. Just to show off Luffy's new strength. I remember in the anime Luffy attacked with Ace showing in the fire. In the manga the fire was there but the Ace reference wasn't. I did like that scene though in the anime.
Currently going into the Punk Hazard arc, they have just entered the island and so far it''s still fun. Going into the new world, without that film Z filler arc was positive and Punk Hazard is going to be 46 chapters. It was also 46 episodes. That's only 1 chapter per episode. This is really how they (almost) ruined the anime by dragging it out like that.
