I'm curious to find out everyone's favorite roleplaying game and which console they find the most enjoyment from RPG games. Personally, I find SNES and PS1 to be the high point of RPG games. SNES brings legendary titles like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Dragon Quest/Warrior, Breath of Fire, Super Mario RPG, Tales of Phantasia, Star Ocean, Fire Emblem; I could go on and on. While Ps1 brings epic titles like Suikoden 1 and 2, Chrono Cross, The Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Grandia, Wild Arms, Vagrant Story, final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics. Again, I could go on and on.

So what is everyones favorite titles?

I would have to think and a lot I have never been able to finish but. Secret of Mana for the SNES is one of my favorite games ever. And I like Dragon Age Origins.

Pokemon. It counts, and it's still awesome. I haven't played enough RPG's to say what console I enjoy them with though.

    Xenogears.

    No not Xenoblade
    No not Xenosaga

We are talking about Xenogears. I hesitate to even call this a game anymore. My rose tinted glasses has now fused with my skull but I no longer care, this is the greatest game I have ever played. No story has surpassed it, not even most novel trilogies can match it. The spiritual successors mentioned above are great but they are too unique to be compared to this masterpiece. The only thing this game needs is a full fledged remake with all the cut content added in. This game lasted over 80 hours with missing levels (second disc of the game cut a lot of corners to make the game shorter). Most impressive though is that the long gameplay has NOTHING to do with GRINDING. It's all one epic story.

Honestly it's like a 4-way tie for me between Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, Knights of the Old Republic, and Mass Effect 2. All were just phenomenal RPGs that I had a blast playing, and I don't know if I could pick any single one over the other. They're also all on different platforms, so that just complicates things even more for me. lol

Funny part @minisiets is that you picked some of the best for each time era. Which Kotor were you referring to the first or second? First one probably had a better story but being on the dark side in the second one was highly amusing (force persuade- give me all your money and jump off the building!). Gets me all the time lol.

I was referring to the first game. Admittedly, I have not played the second one yet. I heard about some game-breaking bugs and how the game was rushed to meet an unreasonable deadline which left a lot of content being cut out, so I was sorta turned off from the whole thing. I may still play it someday though. lol

My favorite RPG is Lunar Legend for GBA. Really enjoyed the game when I was little (even though I couldn't understand English).

Playstation is definitely the one for my RPG's, as well as handheld consoles.

    My favourite RPG's:

    Final Fantasy 6, 7, 9, and 10 (Still need to finish 1, 2, 3, and have never played 4 or 5),

    Wild Arms,

    Grandia 1 and 2,

Star Ocean 1 and The Second Story,

Chrono Trigger (still need to finish it),

Breath of Fire IV (Still need to complete 2, haven't played the others in the series),

Kingdom Hearts (All of them, except for Chain of Memories and Re:Coded),

Golden Sun (and The Lost Age, and Dark Dawn),

    Pokemon (All of them),

I will update this list if I suddenly remember any others.

I kinda enjoyed Phantasy star online ep 1&2 plus on the gamecube. The online component was lost on me, story was somewhat aimless, and the maps were recycled a lot, but still a fun game that I could co-op with and also had a variety of different weapons and skills to discover.

    My favorite RPGs...hmm.

Unlike many others I missed the PS1/n64 era. Started with:
    GBC->GBA->GC->Sega Genesis->PS2->Wii->360->Ps3

Pokemon Yellow and all the second gen
Tales of Symponia - leading to my discovery of the tales series (just got Xilia today)
Radiata Stories - Probably all-time favorite
Star Ocean Til the end of time
    Xenosaga series
Persona 3 FES - A rather recent discovery havent gotten 4 yet
    Kingdom Hearts
    Rogue Galaxy
    Dragons dogma
    Dark souls/demon souls

    kinda RPGs- Borderlands, Mass Effect

    Ps2 era wins

    Tales of Symphonia
    Final Fantasy 4, 5, 6 and 9
Baten Kaitos 1 & 2 (a very obscure GC rpg by Namco)
    Xenoblade Chronicles
    The Last Story
    Pandora's Tower
    Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross (I don't see it as Chrono Trigger 2)
Fire Emblem 1-10 (but if I had to pick one I'd say 4
    Legend of Dragoon
Dragon Quest 5 (I fucking love that game)
Suikoden (haven't play 2 yet still working on the first one)

If I had to pick a console I'd say the PS1

There's a few more but I can't remember the names

Is Fire Emblem 4 the one with the gigantic maps that would take me ages to finish? That game was so great and really required you to properly position your troops. I heard of Baten Kaitos, really need to give that one a chance one day.

Baten Kaitos is good other than the experimental sound choice. That being the characters sound like they're speaking through a tin can, because your "hearing it through another person."

Suikoden (haven’t play 2 yet still working on the first one)

If you like the first one you'll love the second one. It's one of my top three favorites.
