Well today they announced the Xbox One. Opinions?

Well I'll give my 2 cents first:
I turned on my console, saw the name and the box, and thought "this looks like crap". First impressions aside it appears as Microsoft is planning on taking the same path they have started with recently with the 360, which is to expand your living room experience. Kinect is now an integral component that comes with every unit, it can interact with your TV (im skeptical about this to a degree. I think this may depend on using an HDMI/how new your TV is/TV service provider) and everything is instant (movies/games/tv/multitasking).

    Techno babble...
    No AV output, No bluetooth....boo.
    3 wireless radios...ok...

    The controller...
Oddly bulky in the back. Interesting that the triggers have their own feedback. New D-pad.

    Xbox guide....
Similar to the current one plus trends....ok

    http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-and-playstation-4-specs-compared/

    EA sports...
    EA Ignite.
    more polygons and smarter

    Forza....
    Trailer

    Quantum Break...
This was interesting although why use real actors?

15 exclusives and 8 are new IPs....
    Good news

Steven Spielberg and a Halo TV series...wait what?

    NFL Fantasy football integration...
While it doesn't interest me, I imagine this could pull in a lot of new people.

    COD Ghosts...
Early content, and they are doing some modernization on the game, finally.

No real mention of the always online issue, but lots of talk about the cloud. I'd say that this event was a great success for marketing. I still hope that they change the name and box design though.

As an informed gamer I'm fairly disappointed in One. However, I say that the marketing was a success because their angle is hitting people just outside the video game world. Controlling your whole setup through it and reaching out to other things like fantasy football and a Spielberg series broadens its reach. Not to mention that there will be plenty of people who always have an internet connection anyways and don't buy used in addition to the xbox fanboys who would get it just for the new exclusives like the next Halo.

To me it looks interesting although the always online issue does bother me a bit so I did some googling and found some articles from IGN and NBC news.

    http://www.oxm.co.uk/54430/installs-are-mandatory-for-xbox-one-games-pre-owned-definitely-possible/

I think the Xbox One (One, the worst name they could have gone with) with suck balls.

Worst console announcement in the history of gaming. All games are locked to your Xbox Live account. The only way this can be achieved is done through online activation. Since Microsoft confirmed it won't be always online, this means most likely it will be a one-time online activation, so in other words, the equivalent of Steam/Origin/Uplay DRM; requiring online activation even for offline single player content. Does not matter if you bought a physical copy--all games must be installed to your hard drive and authenticated through your Xbox Live account. On top of this, there is a used game fee, since the system will be able to detect if a game was previously tied to another Xbox Live account.

    http://www.computerandvideogames.com/407912/microsoft-confirms-pre-owned-fee-for-xbox-one/

If this is the future of gaming, it is a very depressing one. I award Microsoft no points, and shame on them for playing shady games pretending like they've "got us covered" just because they got rid of the always on requirement. It's still DRM-locked content, and therefore I will not support it.

Time to get a ps3 and become more of a PC gamer.
I bet after a year or so, they're gonna shut down xbox live on the 360 to try and get people onto the Xbox "One".
We already had an Xbox "One", this is what it looked like:

Just gonna get a ps3 and just play some japanese games and call it a day.
New mass effect for the xbox? Nope. New Halo? Lolno. New CoD? When should anyone buy it!
Microsoft is now becoming one with EA, to become.....

Me and my followers input on Twitter about the Xbox One...

So... It's not always-online but it does have to connect to the Internet at least once a day, now? This is such a confusing reveal

I really hope I can see every stitch of denim on Mario's dungarees in the new Mario game. That's what makes a game great. #xboxreveal

So hey, how about that new Sonic game coming out this year? #xboxreveal

No wonder SEGA feels that the Wii U is the best platform for future Sonic games...Microsoft has completely lost touch with video games.

Do you think someone should tell Activision that none of this is actually impressive if you own a decent PC? I feel it might be mean, but...

Hah! Wii U is now my secondary console of choice. Oh, SONY... don't make it my first :)

When I watch this Xbox conference, I feel like the game industry is embarrassed of itself for being the game industry.

Oh, it continues. Mandatory installs. Used game fees. Mandatory Kinect. Lies in the TV feature (you can't change channel with Xbox)

Okay, I'm wrapping up. I'll end by saying today's #XboxReveal mostly confirmed Microsoft wants to be what my television already is now.

Here's another picture of the Xbox One if anyone needs it for press releases Etc... pic.twitter.com/FvBOico2Ay

FIFA. CoD. Oh, Microsoft, you really know your demographic. #xboxreveal

So basically Xbox One is for people who love television and sports. #xboxreveal

Halo the television series was definitely what I tuned in for today.

Someone needs to start counting how many times they're said television

8 new IPs sounds promising. I wonder how many of then are first-person shooters? #xboxreveal

Seriously, that's their lead off? The most hated game company talking about franchises they have just used as cash cows?

"XBOX, LOAD UP A GAME!" *command not available* #xboxone #xboxreveal

Ok, they didn't learn from Sony at all. No games at all so far. Internet Explorer? lolll #xboxreveal

Xbox One. Definitely not the most confusing name they could have picked.

Why are they showing us watching TV on a games console?? #xboxreveal

$100 to anyone in the audience who yells "Xbox OFF" right now

That is incredible, and you should feel very proud for finding that. It so accurately describes everything. Well everything that wasn't covered in the 1 and a half minutes of pure terror that was previously posted.

And to OP, I think that their message wasn't heard by anyone that liked it. At least the stock market doesn't seem to like it and that's the second most likely audience, as microsoft is losing the uptick its gotten since announcing the reveal and Sony got an uptick that is coming down now to due to price calls. We still have to wait for E3, see if PS4 doesn't colossally screw up. Or maybe Xbox will realize how bad they shat the bed on this one.

Sad thing was that I was thinking about buying the xbox in the next gen for the past year or so. I mean I always had two consoles of the gen (this one being the wii and the ps4), and the wii u looked bad. Of course, if one looks abysmal.... Then you don't need to look great *shrugs*.

actually, sonys uptick in stock was due to something else, although the timing was VERY convenient, remeber, sony is more than just games, though, thats how WE view them now, lol

its probally falling now due to upticks for the reason (that iv forgotten) dont usually last long. i belive it was some business model

oh, found it, scroll to the bottom, the rest kind of just talks about the irony

    http://kotaku.com/sonys-stock-jumped-up-following-microsofts-xbox-one-r-509106311

Edit: while this stock jump is mostly being pointed out because the timing is funny (the wording is "following" the reveal, not "because of" the reveal), the actual reason that Sony's stock jumped up is because of possible changes to its entertainment division.

My problem with believing that's the only thing is that it shot up a little too much and its not going down fast enough. It would correct more if it was as small as that. There appears to be residual investors that didn't come for the news. Hell it might be because of that initial uptick by that event that led to the people (of similar mindset to myself) calling what I just did and making it a reality in itself.
I'm no stock person, but I've watched them before and that doesn't seem to be the only factor.

This was quite possibly the worst console announcement I've ever seen. I've been around for the Sega Saturn launch mind you. The ensuing support for the PS4 is crazy. Blocking used games and having an always online (confirmed) requirement? I don't care if it's something as simple as being connected once a day, it's going to cause problems. Eventually down the road the servers will be down and you'll be locked out of any used games you buy or your own games if your original One is fried. Sorry, but I intend to play games longer than one generation and I like buying used games. Discovering games I missed is awesome and cheap.

Please don't screw up Sony. I'd like to continue gaming on modern systems.

The Wii U is no where near as bad as some people make out, just wait for more games, and you will see.
