Mine says 3.2 what do these numbers mean anyways is it the computers overall performance or something like that.

I disagree, an HD68xx or higher will beat a HD77xx, because that is how the model number system works. The first number is basically just how new the card is, and the rest is the relative performance of the card in the range.

The HD7xxx cards are a definite improvement over the HD6xxx cards, in performance and efficiency, and they represent great value for money in comparison to GeForce cards.

The maximum score you can get for "Disk Data Transfer Rate" using a mechanical drive is 5.9. so when you use an SSD you get a much higher score, because well they are dang fast anyway - but WEI actually lets it go above 5.9

It gives you a basic idea of how the computer performs in several areas, with a scoring system that goes from 1.0 to 8.0 (well I think it depends on which version of Windows you use, I heard it changed a bit in Win 8), anyway the higher the scores - the better.

    You're welcome. :)

    Ah, yeah, 7.9 then. :p

Not necessarily. For example, if the rodrule's 3.2 base score was acquired from a weak data transfer rate, then the disk drive may simply be heavily fragmented or was in-use by something else during the test, in which case re-running the test after performing a defrag on the hard disk would give a better result.

I highly doubt he would have a computer that could run BF3 on high like us though

ati are good for being the cheaper card, although Nvidia are still quite expensive, well a lot more expensive. However a higher model does not mean better performance. For example the 6970 out performs my 7770. The only difference with my card is that its power efficient. ati just like to dump out more expensive and newer model cards.

In terms of gaming the new and more common use of physx goes into Nvidia's favor not to mention editing programs and conversation software make great use of nvidias cuda engine, where as ATI have failed to make use of a technology such as this.

I marvel at all your super computers. I think my windows would crash if I attempted to check the score (of course I probably don't want to make a fool of myself).

I believe all scores would be held back until the hard drive is a solid state drive (SSD).

@bennydragonheart your the third person this week to suggest I do a defrag so I finally did it and it did not really help. And @anal-bag you are definitely right on that.

@rodrule one defragment cycle will not speed up your computer at all. You have to run is several times until the cycle takes less than two minutes to complete. After that I suggest you schedule your computer to defragment at least once a week at a time and day that you will most likely be on your computer, that way it is sure to run. I tend to pamper my laptop and have it set to defragment every day at 6:00PM, disk clean once a week (on all drives) at 7:00PM, and I empty my recycling bin every other day. If you want help on how to set this up, feel free to PM me~!

@hikikomori I did it 6 times and it only takes around 30 seconds to finish and it is automatically set to do it every wednesday. And I was not looking at really speeding it up just to up the performance rating. But thanks I forgot to do a disk clean.

    Also @rodrule,

Some things you can do if you have a slow computer is turn off all the visual enhancements (Aero, Aero peek, etc)

Also I recommend downloading this app called Ccleaner, its free (http://www.pirform.com/ccleaner) and the default settings are good enough.
Run both the cleaners and the registry scanner multiple times.

    @sayWut

You misunderstand, the first number is.. well not totally irrelevant - assuming you only look at recent cards.. but compared to the second number it matters a lot less. Although because the first number is essentially the "generation", the higher that is, generally the more efficient it is and more features it has - such as Direct X 11.1 support.

However any recent ATI graphics card with a model number of x9xx is typically going to wipe the floor with another card with a x7xx, and an ATI card with say x790 is going to be somewhat better than one with x770 too. Do you follow that?

You mention Nvidia's CUDA and PhysX features, and say that ATI cards do not have anything similar. I hear Nvidia's CUDA is good, but if you did not know OpenCL is the same kind of technology and is available on all modern ATI cards (and others), and as the "Open" part suggest it is an open platform which AMD contributes to. Whereas CUDA is only available on Nvidia cards, making it a closed or propriety technology, and it is one that is not even significantly better than OpenCL despite that.

PhysX used to be better before it was bought by Nvidia, also you do not need an Nvidia card to use it, just Nvidia have made it so that it only works on their cards. Oh and PhysX can still be powered by CPUs, but Nvidia decided to purposely make sure it does not run well on them, probably to boost their card sales.

Also check out AMD/ATI's TressFX. ;)
