Sega announced at the "Sega Fes" event in Tokyo on Sunday that it will release the Valkyria Chronicles game for the Nintendo Switch this fall. The game will include all the extra content.

Those who purchase the first printing edition of Valkyria Chronicles 4 for Switch will also be able to purchase a download version of Valkyria Chronicles for Switch at 500 yen (about US$4.60). The game will normally retail for 1,990 yen (about US$18.50).

The original Valkyria Chronicles games are set in a fictional reimagining of 1930s Europe. In the first game, the Empire invades the neutral nation of Gallia to claim its resources. The game focuses on the soldiers of Squad 7, a unit in the Gallian conscript Militia, who fight back the invading Empire. The second and third games in the series focus on different Gallian military units.

Sega released the first Valkyria Chronicles game on the PlayStation 3 in Japan, Europe, and North America in 2008, and released Valkyria Chronicles II on the PlayStation Portable in 2010. Sega also released Valkyria Chronicles III on the PSP in 2011, but did not release it in the West. Segareleased Valkyria Chronicles on the PC in November 2014, and released a similar remastered version for the PlayStation 4 in May 2016.

The first game in the series inspired a 26-episode television anime series by A-1 Pictures in 2009. The third game inspired a two-episode original video animation in 2011.

Sega released a new game titled Valkyria Revolution for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in January 2017, and released it in the West in June 2017 with an additional Xbox One version. The game is set in a different world from the main series.

The latest game in the series, Valkyria Chronicles 4, launched for the PS4 on March 21 in Japan, and is planned for a fall release on the Nintendo Switch in Japan (the game was originally slated for a summer release on Switch in Japan). The game is slated for an English release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch this fall.
