The official Twitter account for the Toriko anime announced on Friday that the anime will end on March 30 after three years. Shueisha's V Jump magazine also announced on Friday that the Dragon Ball Kai anime series will take over Toriko's timeslot on Sunday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. on Fuji TV.

In the manga and anime, the title character Toriko is a Gourmet Hunter (Bishoku-ya) who travels the world to hunt down the animals and plants needed for dishes in the finest cuisine. Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro launched the original gourmet manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2008, and the first 27 volumes had more than 18 million copies in circulation as of last November. The 28th volume shipped on January 4, and the 29th volume is slated for release on March 4.

The television anime debuted in April 2011. The manga also inspired the Toriko 3D: Kaimaku Gourmet Adventure!! 3D animated film short, Gekijō-ban Toriko Bishokushin no Special Menu film, and Dream 9 Toriko & One Piece & Dragon Ball Z Chō Collaboration Special!! television anime special.

Viz Media serializes the manga in its English-language Weekly Shonen Jump digital magazine, and it shipped the manga's 20th volume in North America this month. Funimation is releasing the television anime on DVD in North America. Funimation and Hulu are streaming new episodes for audiences in the United States, and Crunchyroll also began streaming the series last year.

@batosai I'm not sure if you've seen this news anywhere so I thought in the case you haven't I'd notify you.

this is terrible news, Toriko has been a surprisingly great watch and I've enjoyed watching it weekly for the last year now [at least]. I am disappointed to see it go but from what I was reading from other comments apparently the anime was catching the manga so it isn't too surprising. But it was just getting so bad arse as well, I wanted to see more of what was happening with the new developments. I hope to see it make a return in the future.

Wow that's terrible news.... I don't even have words for this. It should definitely make a return sometime. Maybe i'll start reading the manga (very unlikely though). Well 3 years is huge for an idea like this though. The creator can be proud of what he's achieved.
To think a shitty remade version of DBZ will replace it too...

@Ovyda, although you're not caught up, you probably wanna know.
