Caution: Some images below show a disassembled doll and could be seen as NSFW.

As some of you may know, I have a 60cm tall Smart Doll of Chitose. She's incredibly adorable and I love her. Other than being cute all day everyday, she doesn't really do that much. I wanted to fix that and after seeing Danny's (the designer if Smart Dolls) post about Smart Charge Mirai, I wanted to do something similar. In his version, he used a Cheero Power Plus 3 mini, a good battery pack for this use, but there was one thing I didn't like, and that was having to push a button in the pack for it to charge. Sure I could push the bust of my doll like Danny pictured, but I'd rather something that just worked when something was plugged in. After much research, I found what I wanted.

In comes the Anker 2nd Gen Astro. There's a lot of reasons why I picked this battery pack, but the two main ones were its shape and power delivery. The shape is the exact size for where the battery pack is going, curves matching and all. The power delivery is a USB type-A port on top that detects the device, delivering the proper charge. Well, lets get started!

As you may have guessed, Chitose's belly is the only spot where the battery pack could fit, and it just manages that. The curves of the cut out and the pack line up very well making it slide in with very little resistance, but enough that it's not loose. As pictured, the battery pack displays it's charge when shaken. That ring looks familiar. Thinking what I'm thinking?

Added a short type-C cable that will run in the back once the bust piece is back on. Picked this cable because it's short and works with my Nexus 5X.

All back together after all that. The battery pack can charge my 5X at a "normal" speed, but not "quickly". It is faster then my computer's USB ports by a lot and I knew I wouldn't get "quick" charge off this battery pack.

Over all, the project was super easy and went well. The only down side is I have to disassemble her to plug in the mini-USB input cable to charge the battery pack/change cables, though only because I wanted one cable out when in use. Also sad to see the LEDs for the batter pack don't shine through her chest, so no Arc Reactor look for Chitose. My next project I have planned will replace the battery with something a lot smarter, though it's going to require a lot of work, but I do have a preview below.

    Those eyes though...

Are you sure it's not stealing information from your phone to send back to it's alien homeworld?
