Tekken game director Katsuhiro Harada confirmed in an interview with the GameSpot website that development of the Tekken X Street Fighter game has been put on hold. During the interview posted on Friday, GameSpot asked Harada about the status of the game. Harada replied:

That's a difficult question to answer. When we develop fighting games, we try to keep the core community in mind as well as the wider audience that wants to play these games. But currently the situation is with fighting games, you have Street Fighter V that just released--a lot of people are playing that fervently--and there's a large crowd out there waiting or Tekken 7. We don't want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken x Street Fighter is something that's become difficult recently. So it's on hold for the moment.

Harada told the Polygon website in January 2015 that the project was still in development, and about 40 members of the Bandai Namco staff were working on the game. "It's very difficult to talk about," Harada said at that time. "Obviously, I had originally planned to release it much earlier than we're currently looking at." He noted that the game was pushed back because other fighting games had saturated the market.

Harada said in August 2013 that the game was "still in development," and he explained "several reasons" why updates on the game had not been announced for several years. “One of the reasons is, Street Fighter X Tekken was released,” Harada said. “That still had updates until recently. One interesting thing we've seen with that title when it came out was that it's not quite what we expected.”

At that time, Bandai Namco was looking for "the right time" to release Tekken x Street Fighter. Harada said in July 2013, "It might seem like we haven't started on it at all, but the character lineup has been decided upon since a very long time ago. And we've already finished the polygon models, moves, and systems."

Bandai Namco and CAPCOM announced the game at San Diego Comic-Con 2010. In the partnership, both companies gave each other access to use the characters from the Tekken and Street Fighter games to create two new fighting games.

CAPCOM released the Street Fighter X Tekken game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan, North America, and Europe in March 2012. The game launched for Windows PC via Steam in May 2012, followed by a PlayStation Vita release that October.
