Sugar Dark: Umerareta Yami to Shoujo

So to break the ice, I should mention that at 1st glance, this shares some similarities to Deadman Wonderland. With the collar and being falsely arrested. But, that's just it, the collar and being falsely arrested.

I'm liking this so far.

It doesn't seem like it's going to be boring. The humor is always appreciated and Muoru seems like a character we'll not be annoyed with.

Now what's with this "Melia of the mass grave"?

Is she dead or is she mass grave digger?

 

Didn't start reading yet, but my friends recommended me this one because apparently it is similar to currently airing anime "Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi" just a lot more darker and violent. Will start it tomorrow probably. Too busy lately.

 

Not really sure if this manga is going to be exactly my kinda thing. It's not classified as Horror but it's still set in a graveyard. But the nice thing about manga is even if it gets violent, bloody, and/or gory it's all in black and white as they are still pictures so it's not nearly as bad as it would be in animated form.

 

At first glance it doesn’t seem like something I’ll be particularly interested in. Although I’m still going into it with an open mind because outward appearance can be misleading. The drama and romance in the description is what initially made me a little less interested.

Well what do you think of the characers based on the first chapter?

I like how the main character is wasting time wallowing in self pitty. Instead of being gloomy and depressed about his situation he's pissed and plans to do something about it. He doesn't know how yet but he's planning it. Probably won't see that officer again so no point mentioning him.

That old guys face creeps me out. If he doesn't turn out to be a villain or something with a face like that I'll be surprised. But then again there may not be any human villains. I doubt he's going to be a pleasant character either way.

Melia seems like a Kuudere type character based off her initial expression.

 

Went in planning on just reading a chapter or two, and ended up finishing it in a day, oops. Kinda like spor, I wasn’t sure i’d like it, but I did. The romance isn’t overplayed.

MC is definitely interesting with his outlook on things despite his situation. His sarcasm is refreshing.





Well even if you read through it all feel free to discuss but avoid spoiling anything passed what has been assigned.

I'll say more of the first 5 chapters later but one thing I'll mention now. I find it a nice change of pace that the "Dark" don't eat humans. Sure they kill them but not for food it's simply their nature. After all if you really think about it humans are a TERRIBLE food source. Human women will give birth at most once a year and normally to one child. Then that child takes about 20 years to reach their prime. So realistically a race of monsters that use humans as a food source are kinda doomed.

 

Just finished 1st chapter. I have to say I am glad I nominated this as it already caught my interest. I'll probably enjoy it as my friends told me

 

First impressions after 5 chapters. I generally judge an art style by the eyes, and I REALLY like them here. The story hasn't really picked up yet; it's still just exposition, but I'm interested in where it's going.

 

Finished 10 chapters. Stopped at the turning point I believe So far it's good

 

Okay we need to try to get discussion for chapters 1-5 moving.

Chapter 2

-Why did he call his shovel a spade?
-The bit about Melia burrying grave robbers was funny.
-On that note does anyone know what he was about to say? He starts saying Bish- then stops.
-I still like how the MC is holding himself together so well.

Chapter 3
-And now we have the classic (Cliche) of the MC falling onto the heroine
-We got a new character what do you guys think of him/her (Not quite sure about the gender). Also unless the author randomly decided to give that guy weird eyes he's not human. Those look like Sage mode naruto's eyes. he seems like a comic relife and exposition character for now.
-So according to this story the dark ages were literally caused by monsters called the dark? Because they kept killing the people trying to make stuff?






I'll post comments on 4 and 5 tomarrow. Also you don't have to format your posts like mine this is just a style I'm trying out to make it easier to talk about various points of each chapter. But you can use it if you like.

 

I’m going to reply to a few things with no transitions. I think he was going to say something about bishonen or bishoujo characters. Don’t quite remember the context, but that’s the thought that came to me. I roll my eyes every time they have the guy falls on girl or vice versa. I like Raven’s design, and especially the eyes, but he does seem to be the exposition tease guy. The story says that as the Dark Hunters killed The Dark, peoples’ life spans increased, as there were less predators. They were making a point that the Hunters were protecting them in secret.

 

I believe Raven is indeed a human, but has some supernatural powers. Probably nothing really extraordinary, but enough to move quickly and "fly" ability?? I liked his char design as well

Now what really picks my interest is Melia itself... But I'll wait till you reach 10th chapter where I am now.

 

Chapter 4
-I think I found a slight plot hole. When Melia first meets Moul she asks him "Are you moving despite being dead" but why would she think this? According to crow (In chapter 5) he has employed other people before so Melia should be aware of people digging holes. Plus the dark are monsters who don't seem to take on a human form. Plus the dark aren't really undead they are just immortal. So even if she somehow mistook him for a dark (Which should have been unlikely) she still shouldn't have said it like that. I'm guessing either it was a poor translation or the writer was originally going to go with something more like a zombie or undead theme but changed his mind.

-I liked his "I was rejected" face. And if it wasn't obvious before he's totally falling for her it certainly is now. I mean just look at how happily he was talking about his home.

Chapter 5
-I still don't like that old man.

-I normally like the "Why" to be explained in manga like this but the fact that they at least tell us "the creatures are a mystery so we don't know either" so it's an actual mystery and not a plot hole. Plus they at least fully explain what is going on so that you can follow the plot easily enough. Some manga try to act mysterious but really they are just teasing you by not explaining anything properly.

-WHAT IS UP WITH THAT FRUIT! That was fruit wasn't it? It kinda looked like a mutated apple or pear.

-How cute he's afraid to talk to her.

 

Chapter 4

Well I believe Raven and the others might be something else beside Humans and Dark, and maybe Melia thought that Moul is one of them... although I probably agree with you. Must be a plot hole... I didn't notice myself.

Chapter 5

Uh... I thought at first that that "fruit" was a piece of Dark and she eats them... well apparently it's really just a fruit. I was fooled

 

Maybe it's a "Dark" fruit or something? Not really sure how that works unless because of all the Darks in the ground plants that grow in the graveyard absorbed some of their properties or something. It's definitely not normal fruit but I wonder if it tastes like normal fruit or not? Does it look disgusting but taste normal or does it taste as bad as it looks? Would you take a bit if you saw this fruit?

 

Common guys we need more people discussing. You all seemed interested so try talking about it a bit. anything.

 

It kind of looked like a heart to me, and he seemed pretty grossed out, so I thought it was. By the way, they both look like young adults/older teens, but they're apparently young teens? Strange. Maybe we could do predictions of how we think things'll go? I'd say what I think, but it's not really like many other manga I've read. No real stereotypes with the plot for me to base predictions off of.

 

I have only read chapter one and part of two but so far it looks interesting.
