Sony revealed during its E3 presentation on Monday that Square Enix is developing a new PlayStation 4 virtual reality game titled Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV. The game shows the main characters of Final Fantasy XV fishing and roasting food around a campfire. The game launches in September.

Square Enix previously revealed last year that it is also developing the "Final Fantasy XV VR Experience," a VR demonstration for Sony's PlayStation VR headset. The previous video showed the game from the perspective of Prompto.

Final Fantasy XV went on sale worldwide for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 29.

The game's director Hajime Tabata stated that the game broke even with development costs on "day one." As of January 10, the game had sold more than 6 million copies worldwide. The number includes physical shipments and download sales.

The game's combined digital sales and shipments exceeded 5 million copies on launch day. This is the fastest record for Square Enix's Final Fantasy franchise.

The game also set a new record for first-day download sales for a Square Enix title in Japan. Similarly, the game set a new record for first-day download sales plus packaged shipments for a Square Enix title in Asia (excluding Japan).
