Psycho-Pass 2 to Debut in October, Followed by Winter Film

Fuji TV announced during its Noitamina Line Up 2014 event on Friday that the Psycho-Pass 2 series will premiere this October, followed by the Psycho-Pass movie this winter. In addition, a "new edit version" of the original 2012 television anime series will air starting this July.

The "new edit version" will take the first series and re-cut it into 11 one-hour episodes with new cuts of footage.

Fuji TV producer Akitoshi Mori gave the following comment:

This is the first work that I really took under my wing.
Each week there was a pre-screening at the Noitamina Shop & Café. Worried about how people would react to an original work's first episode, I went early before the shop opened to check out the scene. There were only a few people lined up. After it opened, there were still plenty of empty seats, and honestly speaking, I was worried about the future. But as the number of episodes grew, so did the number of guests.

By the final episode, over 1,000 people had queued in a huge line for a venue that only had a capacity of 70! Even with four showings a day, the place was filled from the start. Seeing that, my heart was filled with warmth as I realized just how many fans had come to support the show. That feeling is still motivation for creating more works, even today. I want to see a line even longer than that one! It's with that feeling I work on Psycho-Pass.

A Psycho Pass novelization series will begin running in the August issue of Hayakawa Publishing's S-F Magazine on June 25. Ryō Shigami is writing the novel installments that will feature four characters. After serialization ends, Hayakawa Bunko JA line will revise and edit the novel and publish it in October.

"Choe Gu-sung-hen (Zengo-hen)" (Choe Gu-sung Version: Beginning) will debut in the August issue of S-F Magazine, followed by "Choe Gu-sung to wa Nanimono na no ka. Soshite, Shogo Makishima to no Kaikō―." (What kind of person is Choe Gu-sung? And his chance meeting with Shogo Makishima―) in the next issue on July 25. "Shusei Kagari-hen" (Shusei Kagari Version) will feature in the October issue on August 25, and the Yayoi Kunizuka and Shion Karanomori installment will appear in the November issue on September 25.

Hayakawa Bunko JA will also publish the "Psycho Pass Genesis" book in December. Shigami will reveal the origins of the Sybil System and how Tomomi Masaoka was involved. The "Kanshikan Kogami Shinya" (Enforcer Shinya Kogami) manga will premiere in the August issue of Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Blade magazine on June 30 with a color cover and opening page. New artist Natsuo Sai is illustrating the manga with a story by Production I.G and Midori Gotou.

Psycho-Pass takes place in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person's state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term "Psycho->Pass" in the anime's title refers to a standard used to measure an individual's being. The story centers around the "enforcement officer" Shinya Kōgami (Tomokazu Seki) who is tasked with managing crime in such a world. Naoyoshi Shiotani (Blood+, Tokyo Marble Chocolate) directed the series, Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero) wrote and edited the scripts, and Akira Amano (Reborn!) designed the characters.

The original anime premiered on Fuji TV's late-night Noitamina programming block last year. Funimation streamed the 22-episode series as it aired last year, and then added home video rights last year. Funimation announced the dub cast in December. Production I.G is working on a second television season and new film.
