Aniplex of America describes the original anime series as follows:
The story of Plastic Memories takes place in the near future where humanity experienced a slight technological advancement. Tsukasa Mizugaki begins working for a major android manufacturer named SAI Corporation. SAI Corporation is known for their androids called “Giftia” that are capable of having human emotions. Tsukasa is assigned to work for the department in charge of retrieving Giftias that are close to their expiration. Tsukasa must learn the ins and outs of his new position alongside his Giftia partner, Isla, who had never been assigned any significant task before working with Tsukasa. As Tsukasa learns more about Isla and the Giftias, he also begins to learn about what it means to be human.

Aniplex of America streamed the series on Aniplex Channel, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Daisuki as it aired in Japan beginning last April. The company will release the series on Blu-ray Disc in two sets on July 19 and September 27.
