The official website for the One Room television anime announced on Monday that a One Room VR project is in the works to commemorates the upcoming second season. The staff launched a crowdfunding campaign on Campfire to expand the project.

The VR app for iOS and Android devices features the character Yui Hanasaka from the first season's second episode. Gugenka's Takuya Igarashi is creating the 3DCG animation and Yui's voice actress M.A.O is recording new lines for the project.

The base VR experience will be titled "One Room VR - Seifuku-hen" (Uniform Edition). If the crowdfunding campaign reaches 1 million yen (about US$8,830) by February 27, the staff will add an "Apron-hen" (Apron Edition) where Yui is in an apron during all the scenes. Similarly, if the project reaches its 1.5 million yen stretch goal, it will unlock "Mizuki-hen" (Swimsuit Edition). If the project reaches 2 million yen, the app will add ear-cleaning voices. Finally, if the project reaches 300 yen, the staff will offer a life-size AR figure of Yui through Gugenka's HoloModels app.

The first season of One Room premiered in Japan on January 11. Crunchyrollstreamed it as it aired in Japan and describes the story with a "first-person narrative":

You are the protagonist. A new project in virtual anime from SMIRAL Animation that also brought you the "Anitore" series and "Makuranodanshi." This time, the project is about 3 stories that develop in your (one) room.

Kantoku (The "Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat., Garakowa -Restore the World-original character designer) designed the original characters for One Room, and Yasuhiro Okuda (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha) adapted those character designs for animation. Typhoon Graphics (animation production assistance for Digimon Adventure tri. films) animated the series. Eiji Mano was in charge of the original story, and Aose Shimoi wrote the scripts. Takashi Sakuma was the executive producer, Hiroki Matsumoto of Atelier PLATZ was the art director, Chieko Hibi was in charge of color design, Fumi Namba was the composite director, and Shun Tokuda edited the series. Entertainment label SMIRAL (Anime De Training! Ex, Makura no Danshi) was in charge of the original concept.

A spinoff anime series titled Room Mate: One Room side M premiered in April. The series told "another story" featuring male characters.
