NIS America announced on Wednesday that it will release the anime film Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress (Fuse Teppō Musume no Torimonochō) in a Premium Edition on May 6. Along with a collectible slipcase, the English-subtitled Blu-ray Disc of the film will include a 32-page, fully illustrated hardcover art book and Japanese commercials for a suggested retail price of US$49.99.

The film is an adaptation of Kazuki Sakuraba's Fuse Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden novel. In Kyokutei Bakin's classic Japanese epic novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden, eight samurai serve the Satomi clan during Japan's tumultuous Sengoku (Warring States) era. The Edo-era samurai are the reincarnations of the spirits that Princess Fuse mothered with a dog named Yatsufusa. In Sakuraba's Fuse Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden novel, the female hunter Hamaji comes with her brother in order to hunt the hybrids.

    NIS America describes the story:

Hamaji (Minako Kotobuki), a young huntress from the mountains, stumbles into the middle of a shogun's vendetta against a group of human and dog hybrids, the Fusé. Rumors of Fusé murdering innocent people in the bustling city of Edo have sparked a bounty for their heads. Along with her brother, Hamaji joins the hunt for this dangerous quarry, but after accidentally befriending one of them, Hamaji is torn between two worlds: her life as a self-reliant huntress, and the young woman her new friend has helped her to uncover.
Masayuki Miyaji (Xam'd: Lost Memories) made his debut as a theatrical anime film director with a script by Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion). Designers Okama (Evangelion remake films) and Seiichi Hashimoto (Xam'd: Lost Memories) and composer Michiru Oshima (first Fullmetal Alchemist anime) also contributed at TMS Entertainment.
