So, here's the deal. I never really cared much for the DS and avoided ever buying one. The newest handheld I have is a Gameboy Advance SP, so I'm a little outdated. However, Nintendo recently announced a Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Nintendo 3DS XL bundle and I fell in love :p But really, I've pretty much decided to go ahead and get the 3DS XL Zelda bundle and give the 3DS a try.

Of course, I'm going to play the new LoZ on it, also Pokemon Y, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. But what else should I play? I don't really know where to start. I've been browsing the internet for various DS and 3DS games that I might be interested in but I'm sure there's a lot I'm overlooking. So does anyone have any suggestions for games to help me update my handheld gaming?

    Thanks guys ^-^

Definitely, I love the FE games.  I only know of Shadow Dragon and Awakening for the DS.  Any other ones?  Or one in particular I should play?

Other ones are GBA, so only straight DS or GBA playable.
I see that you have an SP from the top post now, so the two are called Fire Emblem (just that in America as it was the FIRST that was released in America despite not being the first in the series) and Sacred Stones.
For other 3ds things, you may want Ocarina of Time (because really a Zelda 3ds without the OoT reboot owned is sort of hilarious, though I understand if it doesn't work for you), Awakening is definitely worth it, Shadow Dragon less so (it's a remake of the original and imho before it hit it's stride), and maybe try some MegaTens if you feel like experimenting (I have Devil Survivor Overclocked and Shin Megami Tensei IV, and I like both though Overclocked a bit more).
I still wish that I had known about the Awakening 3DS before I bought my 3ds....

Yeah, I believe the one titled Fire Emblem on GBA is FE 7?  I have that one, first one I played actually.  Then I have Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.  I will definitely give Awakening a try and probably try out Shadow Dragon at some point.  Never heard of MegaTens, what genre is that?  Idk if I'm going to go for OoT on the 3DS, I have the original for the N64 and absolutely love it, favorite Zelda game actually, if not favorite game overall.  I've never been much for remakes.  But chances are I'll at least try it someday just to see the changes.

MegaTen is the short way of saying Shin Megami Tensei. It's similar to Fire Emblem (to the point that a crossover is being made :3) and it mainly works by people summoning demons and fighting with them. Basically imagine fire emblem but instead of 20 units spread out it's 4 groups of 3 units (Devil Survivor) or just focusing in on the individual battles (SMTIV).

Sounds good, I will give that a try as well ^-^  Anyone ever played any of the DS Castlevania games aside from Order of Ecclesia?

I'll be honest; I gave up on Nintendo with everything after the GameCube. Sure, my brother bought a Wii for a bit (which was about as defective as the grand majority of US politicians) and I did at one point have a NDS only because I wanted to know what a touchscreen console was like, but all in all, I think Nintendo is just getting more and more gimmicky in releasing, what I believe to be, the same damn thing every time they come out with what they claim to be a "new stable release".

I would agree with you.  Being a huge LoZ fan, however, I really have no choice but to keep up with their hardware if I want to play games such as LoZ, FE, Castlevania, etc.   So I really don't blame you for giving up on Nintendo, because their hardware is getting more and more gimmicky in the hopes that their unnecessary innovation will appeal to wider, more casual audiences and pull off a miracle, becoming the next big thing in gaming tech.  That being said, I do still love many of their games and so I will probably be giving my money to Nintendo for years to come.  Never getting a Wii U though....ever.

I may give Nintendo another chance when they don't feel like re-releasing a game for the 400th time (e.g: LoZ, Mario, Pokemon) and maybe come out with something new and decent instead of just raping the copy/paste function.

I find this is an argument that a lot of people use against Nintendo.  I don't feel that it is always valid, however.  Why?  Because the games are still good.  Innovation for the sake of innovation doesn't really do much.

Nintendo has trademark titles, the ones you mentioned (LoZ, Mario, etc.), that have a HUGE following and fan base.  Not to mention that these games have been around for ages and still stand the test of time.  I still maintain that OOC is one of the best, if not the best, game ever created.

I take many issues with Nintendo, and they have certainly released some sub par  installments in their franchises, but, as a whole, Zelda, Mario, and other big names that Nintendo has made a name off of still hold up today.  Why?  Because it's not just copy and paste.  Sure it's the same series, and similar formulas, but each game is it's own adventure.  Minish Cap is not Twilight Princess, and Twilight Princess is not Wind Waker.  Sure, they're all in the Zelda franchise, sure they all have similar formulas (get the bow, hookshot, kick Ganon's butt) but they all have their own unique spin and feel about them that allows them to bring something fresh to the series.

So no, I want Nintendo to keep doing what they're doing, because they're doing it well.  I don't mind seeing long running series so long as they can keep it fresh and entertaining, new isn't always better.  There's no point in going a completely different direction.  They understand their audience, know what their fans want, and, honestly, their big series are the only thing that keeps Nintendo afloat and sets them apart from their competition.

Despite their goofy hardware, and even if they are pretty much only producing a certain number of series, the one's they've been producing from the start, they still make damn good games.  And that's what really counts.
