It has come to our attention that a malicious browser hijacker, distributed by cyber hackers to target computer users worldwide. This “infection” is spread amongst user browsers such as Firefox, chrome, opera.

This “virus” spreads like most, it can be bundled and hidden in ads, and it can be hidden in a link. It will try and trick you into installing software or making a purchase. Typically when a user has been redirected or has accidentally clicked on an infected adware they will redirect to a hazardous site / sites

“”The lemode-mgz.comredirect is so invasive that it comes bundled with additional computer threats, such as adware parasites, malware and spyware. The redirect affects the computer deeply, and it slows down the system performance as well “”

After infection, it will default as your home page; change your default search provider without authorization. Then it takes over your web browser completely

Because of its elusively, hard detection and the way its coded, many anti viruses will fail to pick this up.
Common sense is your best protection, don’t click on dodgy ads, and don’t randomly click unknown links.

If you have been compromised, it is highly recommended you change your password after infection is dealt with, or log into another uninfected device to change your password. Don't change your password while logged in an infected machine still.

Protect your browser – install ad blocker, pop up blockers, and shields

    Before attempting to remove
Install a safe antivirus such as

    SPY BOT search and DESTROY

    How to remove
Manual ( for when your infected and have failed to destroy the virus)
    Windows

Restart windows and enter safe mode, by pressing f8 before boot select “safe mode” with networking”

    Run the antivirus.
NOTE this has just come to my attention. This will be updated when more info is known.

Why do people have to be such assholes? Why can't we just have fun on the internet without fear of stepping on landmines placed everywhere?

Given my line of work, I find this very interesting. I have to ask though, why is this in Announcements and not in Tech Temple? Is it so the members are aware of this or something like that? Maybe I answered my own question.

Since it was affecting a staff member I had him post it here so everyone would be aware, just in case.

I was unfortunate enough to stumble across it. =P My PC seems virus and malware free, luckily. I haven't been clicking on anything or accepting any downloads so I'm not sure what happened there.

Since I use Safari I'm curious, there was no mention of Safari being one of the browsers that are being targeted so does this mean that all users with Safari are safe?
Is this also targeted at us or the web in general? I'm that clueless about these things it is like I need to take a couple of courses about computers.

I use Firefox and have Safari as well, it doesn't necessarily mean that Safari CANNOT be targeted. "Common sense is your best protection, don’t click on dodgy ads, and don’t randomly click unknown links." This will be the best way to protect yourself, just look at it as any other virus and don't click on dodgy links or ads.

"It has come to our attention that a malicious browser hijacker, distributed by cyber hackers to target computer users worldwide." It is not just us it is worldwide.
