Is Bobobo funny and if so why?

Or is it not funny and why?
I don't think it is funny because it is devoid of context so much of the time. I feel like Gintama got the formula of "random" comedy right, by putting asides in as a sort of vignette to the main battle. Here we basically see "what the hell" moments side by side until you just feel tired.
Granted it's probably funnier in Japanese because most of the humor has some pun basis, but even then, I can't imagine liking this for puns alone. I mean, why would one watch a show that is just a string of puns, it's like a song that only has down beats, it's going to get boring after a bit.

 

I think it is funny at first. I haven't finished Bobobo yet but the first several eps seemed interesting. However, how it continues throughout the entire series makes it quickly get old.
