I'm sure this is incoherent but fuck who cares really.

The constant negativity of the internet isn't reality.

I need to leave message boards and eventually maybe even the internet behind. I tried quitting forums last year, and I failed. It's over ten years since I created this escape for myself and I can't hide anymore. I have regressed in every way. They were never good but my social skills are non-existent. I'm blessed but I'm not happy. I haven't been happy in years. I don't think there's much out there for me in the world but that's just an excuse, like all the others.

I no longer want to escape reality, I want to escape this bullshit world I created for myself when I was 12. Life is not anime, life is not porn and life is not message boards. I miss the days when I had fun because of who was around me and not because of what I was doing. 10+ years of addictive internet use has turned me into the opposite of who I used to be, and not who I want to be. Those of us who hide inside technology to escape are the real life chuuni. Ryouko Satou would probably say I'm dead inside, but I have faith that I can still turn my life around.

The first step has to be getting off message boards. I probably post my thoughts on forums more than I actually talk in real life and have been doing that for over a decade, that's obviously not healthy. This is my addiction. Once I manage to leave forums it will be for good, no looking back.

Normally when I'm leaving a forum I wouldn't make a thread like this cause I don't like the attention, but if I didn't make a post saying I was leaving it would be easier to come back which would not be a good thing.

TL;DR - read the thread title. If you want to remain in touch I still plan on using MAL for the forseeable future so yeah thats in my signature. Thanks for entertaining me for the last two months. I'll probably still check the Ongoing Dub Releases thread every once and while for news but I won't be logging in anymore.

I think I know what you mean.
For me, I have been wanting to get off of Deviant Art, or at least the forum side, due to all the negativity. I have been a member of this site (JAF) for 2 years, and I only have roughly 1,500 messages, but on DA, I easily have 4000-5000, and I was only there for 7 months. Part of the curse of a site being so active and having so many people.
Here, I can have a nice talk with the usual people that stick around here, and hear comments from people who relatively give a damn about stuff, instead of dozens of people quipping on crap or trolling you. As a result, I feel a lot more negative towards people now, like I am in a constant mode of "All people are hostiles,", and ready to tear them apart like a worthless noob or troll.

I'm going to sound weird since I'm younger than you and we really haven't talked much, but I truly am proud that you are able to make a decision like that and stick to it. I know I have no right to give advice and you have no obligation to listen, but maybe instead of pulling the plug totally, you might be able to use your past as a tool to help others who are/were in the same situation as you. I myself struggled and still struggle with the same problems and it would have been helpful for me to have someone to talk to.

Just a thought. Goodbye, God Bless You, and Thank You!!

Almost a month late, but the door is always open. Even if you only come around and visit.

I've been more of an internet dweller for 15 years. Technology is my life and I have no other passion than for technology (and anime). My social skills do lack some, but I do have a few local friends. Some that watch anime, play video games, do both, and some that don't (though these are more co-worker type friends, I still consider them friends and not just a co-worker and acquaintance). I've always been the silent type, even before the internet (and yes, even before Windows 3.x). Windows 3.1 was actually just coming out when I was in Kindergarten. I was still using DOS and learning how to type, and was actually faster than the computers back then. Oh yeah, I'm a bit old.

Anyways, society has shifted towards the internet where it is almost required even for job-related tasks and job applications. You won't be able to quit the internet, but you can control how much you spend on it. Best of luck and I hope you have had a wonderful (almost) month journey so far in your search for a lifestyle you want.

Reality is a cruel place to be. A place I care not for.
But other than that, holy shit, I wondered why I haven't seen you around; it seems like I'm a month too late to say a goodbye.
And as for me. Technology is my only refuge, I only have 3 friends that are around me, and the rest far up north (which I met through the internet), I can simply say, I wouldn't be the person I am today if I never had internet.

    Off topic but...
    Woah Windows 3.1 sighting! DOS!

Those IBM computers cracked the tile flooring.
