    Hiya,

I just finished watching Another, liked it quite a bit, and one of my all time favorites has been Elfen Lied. Are there any recommendations that are similar to these titles? Dark, brutal, but with a good story/moral to form? Any suggestions are welcome.

Higurashi is probably your best bet. You don't really find anime that try be brutal while holding a good story, they'll usually pick one or the other.

Yeah but Corpse Party doesn't have a story, which is what they want.

I really enjoyed Shiki and Parasyte. I would recommend Deadman Wonderland, great story, fairly gory, but leaves you hanging after episode 12. Still a good watch though.

I'm a little late, but since no one else has recommended it, Mirai Nikki (The Future Diary). Possibly my favorite horror/psychological anime.

Psycho-Pass isn't quite like Elfen Lied or Mirai Nikki, so it may not be what you're looking for. But it certainly is a great anime (season 1, only) and has elements of psychological horror.

I also really enjoyed Elfen Lied, I'm due for another re-watch, eventually. =P

@Juile I have literally only just seen this thread. But, I agree with the above suggestion for Higurashi. I would also recommend Paranoia Agent and Shiki if you haven't seen them. :)

Don't think anybody has mentioned Ghost Stories and I would suggest at least looking at it. There is also Hell Girl although it's not the best English adaption but if you can tolerate it it's worth watching.

I agree with both Higurashi (When they Cry) and Mirai Nikki (Future Diary). Dubbed names are in parentheses.

Some sites list Akame ga Kill as Horror. The anime is not as bloody as the manga but they still keep a good story line.

Bluh, I'm still upset by the fact that they refuse to dub the rest of Higurashi. It's hard to sate people's hunger for the show with just the first season. I'd recommend watching the subs, just so that you can watch the whole thing unhindered, but it's worth watching any part of it.

For that matter, I'd also recommend Umineko, by the same writer. Though I'm sure they haven't gotten around to dubbing that either, seeing as they let Higurashi take the name "When They Cry". But if you don't mind the subs, that's the way to go after you finish Higurashi.

But if you prefer dubs (because this is a dubs website after all), I think the only one I can recommend beyond what was already mentioned is Ghost Hunt. It starts out rather slow, but if you don't mind a somewhat "cutesy" front, it does get the blood pumping in later episodes.

    Hey Juile,
If you are still looking for more suggestions in anime, you could try 'Claymore', 'Death Note' or even 'Blood-C' if you haven't seen them already. All three have pretty good stories behind them. I hope this was helpful.:)
