High School DxD: Ecchi doesn't always mean good

*Sighs* Just because an anime shows lots of nude shots doesn't mean it's a good anime. My main problem with anime like this one is it's over-glorified fanservice it brings. Now I may be a dude but even I have standards. It's hard for me to take an anime like this seriously when it keeps flashing me with panties and the girls busts every three and half minutes. It things like this that obstructs the story of the anime. Speaking of which, this anime is basically "lonely" material (if you know what I mean.) Not mention without Rias, this anime would be dead in the water. It's like every shot of her is either in the shower or in bed. I do admit is was getting good by the time I hit episodes 4-5 maybe? But after that it bombed. The main guy character is funny I admit that but that's it. I still say it's BS that this anime got a second season where there are other anime that are better than this one that deserve a second season. I could go on but I think it would exceed the word count so I'll sum it up.

Highschool DxD does have the idea of a good story but the fanservice takes it away and I cannot take this anime seriously. I think I can go five minutes without a nude shot of Rias.

 

I'm going to have to disagree with you there.

Though i agree there are a lot of nudity, It only makes it better. I mean, there is a reason people call a girl with big boobs boobs personality and boobs galore plot. Because they are substitutable. more boobs = better anime.

To be serious now. This is a guilty pleasure show. The show never really takes itself seriously and neither should you. It's more for a lighthearted "I want to see some boobies without watching porn", or just a casual anime that you want to project yourself in. This is really all about the fantasy of it. You WANT to be there.

TL;DR:
Don't go into an ecchi looking for plot. That's not what its for.

 

Severus basically got the jist of it. While I do agree that too much fan-service can shroud the plot of an anime, I can't say I necessarily went into this anime looking for a plot to begin with xD. But hear me out, there are definitely reasons out there to watch Highschool DxD other than fanservice...

Meh... echii shows. A bit too overboard for me. I like to use my imagination to fill in the blanks. Thats just me though. Echii anime are like Michael Bay films, very flashy teenage driven action with boobs.

So yeah not to be taken seriously like sev says. Is Highschool of the Dead considered the best at the genre? Not too many I know seem so devoted to fan service compared to this one.

i like how the original post was saying how it doesn't deserve a 2nd season, i guess "plot" can take an anime a long way

Oh no, this anime deserved more seasons. At the very least, it allows for more time and material to create better fan art, doujins, "parody vids", and ecchi pics. As long as a series is relevant, more people will make them. Who cares about the actual seasons.

Well , I guess some doujinshi and parody vids are as good as the actual anime, if not better.
This anime in particular happens to have a very large fan base due to its famous plot.
Oh And i second the fact that this anime deserves more seasons.

Kinda, yeah. But, it's kind of expected. I mean, you know what you're getting, going in.

I don't mind the fan service. I mean this is High School DxD. I do, however, find some of the characters just outright obnoxious.

The show is good for a few laughs and is enjoyable enough to keep me vaguely interested. It's all about the fan service, make no mistake. But DxD certainly puts in more effort than many other anime in it's genre. That may not say a lot, but hey, at least it occasionally feels like they're trying. =P
