    *Small Spoilers*

I ran across this anime years ago and being a fan of the Slice of Life I decided to give it a try and I have mixed feeling about it. The story follows Rakka as she awakes in this world with no memory of her past life other then a dream she has while she is in this "egg". Soon after she comes out of the egg she grows a small pair of wings, she is now what the others call Haibane and for some reason every Haibane must were a Halo on there heads, Why? who knows.

And that brings me wont what I don't like about this anime they only explain the bare minimum of what you need to know.  Rakka almost ever question anything and just goes along with everyone else, the Haibane are treated as a second class citizen in the town but they try to clover this up by saying there taking care of the haibane, the Haibane are only allowed to work at pre approved jobs they get no money and if they wont to buy something they have to use a note book using pages as money but they can only buy used things.

and one of the big things is that no one not Haibane or human can EVER leave the city they even have a 30 foot wall around the hole town and the near by forest that will kill you if you touch it well not right away but in a few day it will, why can no one ever leave, how can the wall kill people by just touching it? Who know you never fine out, I fond everything going on around the story far more interesting then the story it self. for example in one of the later episodes Reki tells how when she was younger her and a young boy tried to clime over the wall the boy almost dies and as punishment Reki and the boy can not go in to the side side of the city as each other. But as I head that all I could think was what is stopping you from see each other, no one would stop her if she when over there.

the main story of Rakka is not a bad one but all the religious sub meaning don't help much. To sum up Haibace Renmei explains only enough for you to understand what is going on with Rakka. Everything going on around the main story is far more interesting.

    Over all I give it a 2/5

2!? The anime leaves unanswered questions intentionally. It is open to interpretation for the audience. There is speculation amongst fans that every character committed suicide and so they are waiting to be forgiven for their sin. E.g. Rakka's dream is falling, so she jumped off something. Rekki's dream is her being run over by a train. So they live in Haibane to become good people and realise what they did wrong, whether they upset the people closest to them, etc. Hope that clarifies the story a bit more.

The whole point of the anime was to be mysterious. It's not supposed to answer those questions. It worked really well with this anime. Not sure if it would work well with many others. This anime was dam good.
