FAQ Friends

This add-on extends XenForo's features by allowing users to create friendships with one another. This was meant as a substitute for the following system. Some users argued that the following system didn't reflect a mutual relationship between both users. The following system is still in place for any users wishing to use it.

Features

• Users can send friend requests to others

• Users enter how they know each other when sending friend requests

• Users receive an alert when they receive a friend request or when a friend request they sent has been accepted

• Users can flag if they know each other personally (outside of the site)

• Privacy settings can allow users to set certain actions (e.g., viewing profile, starting a conversation, etc.) to only be allowed to be performed by friends

Users can be promoted to user groups based on the number of friends they have or number of friends they know personally

You can locate the friend request button on the user's profile or the user overlay here:

So we've now got followers and friends, I wonder if there is a point in having 2 different classes of classifications. The following aspect didn't mean much anyway considering who actually used it to see what people were up to?
Friends are people you chat to frequently, but naturally those users are the ones you'd want to follow in the first place. Hmm... I wonder if we are going to see an influx of everyone sending requests now?

 

This seems legit, the only other possible image is Kemono Friends.

Although I think I need a different image, it has been half a day and I still haven't received a request. I'm all alone.... I think I need a hug

 

Followers can't be removed unless I go in and add some css to remove all of the areas where followers are visible and all the areas where you can choose to follow people. Plus some people might not care about friends enough to bother with it. The followers function can't actually be removed from the board as of now. It's up to the user to decide on what to use.

It would seem at this point the whole idea behind following people now is to see their activity in your news feed. Think of it like Facebook. The friends system lets people see their social status with other friends. You can also adjust your privacy settings to have only friends able to view your profile. And following you can set it to where the person's posts show up in "Your News Feed" list of the follower.

 

To remove it without editing css, php or core files. Google pretty much gave me what was in the PM you sent. And like I also said, some people may want to continue using the follow system and I don't want to undo 4 years of people following each other.

 

Unlikely because both following and friends serve two different purposes now. Friends system is for making friends and following is for the persons posts to show up in your news feed list. Similar to how it works on Facebook. When you follow someone their posts show up first in your news feed.
