Forgot the anime name

I saw an anime series over a decade ago (only two episodes, actually) and the most significant part i remember was just parts of what i think is the first episode. Perhaps someone can piece together the fragments.

I remember the main character being teenage boy, probably a high school student. His uniform was a type of green. I think he is a loner, and at one point point he passes two girls that are ascending ( or descending, perhaps) the staircase in the school. The two are oblivious to him , talking about either their interests or possibly about him being a loner. He leaves the school and eventually sees a boy chase a ball into the street. He stops the boy and scolds the boy for doing such a dangerous thing. The young boy starts crying, and the main character cheers him up by making funny faces. The boy stops crying, and the protagonist walks away. Before he leaves, however, the young boy loses his ball in the street and chases after it. A couple in a car are distracted, and do not see the boy. The main character happens to see this, and runs to shove the boy out of the way. He succeeds, but the car's impact brings instant death to him. In the next moment he is looking down at his lifeless body, as a spirit.

At this point i remember nothing else significant. Does this seem recognizable to anyone?

I was wondering, is there already a thread on this forum for identifying forgotten anime? If not, would it be worthwhile to start one, and where would be a good place to start one? I just want other people to have a place to find out an anime they cannot remember the name to but wish to find it with ant details they remember.
