Fables is a comic book series created by writer Bill Willingham, published by DC Comics's Vertigo imprint beginning in 2002. The series deals with various characters from fairy tales and folklore – referring to themselves as "Fables" – who have been forced out of their Homelands by "The Adversary" who has conquered the realm. The Fables have traveled to our world and formed a clandestine community in New York City known as Fabletown. Fables who are unable to blend in with human society (such as monsters and anthropomorphic animals) live at "the Farm" in upstate New York.

Alright so I only started reading because I just finished season 1 of the Telltale game adaption. About 9 issues is so far and liking it. A long way to go to catch up. And at first I thought I'd have the satisfaction of another monthly ongoing comic but I found out not long ago that it was announced in November 2013 that the series would end with issue #150 in early 2015.. I definitely recommend checking this out.

I'll echo Sporadic's recommendation and say Fables is superb. I also got into the series after playing The Wolf Among Us, and I love what I've read so far. I have been collecting the volumes (I have up to 11) and I believe that puts me on issue #75.

It's such a bizarre premise, but the comic takes itself so seriously that you can't help but be immersed in it's very strange world. And it only gets weirder. Once things like the Homeland start becoming more prominent, it becomes a very different comic. But still enjoyable, at least of what I've read. The first five issues involve a nice little story arc that I think is a good way of finding out if the comic is for you. I highly recommend people at least read that.
