A couple days ago Electronic Arts shut down Simcity developer Maxis Games. Maxis is also well known for The Sims and the Spore series of games. I can't seem to find a good reason as to why but I think it had to do with the poor sales of The Sims 4 and Simcity. For those that don't know, the reasoning behind the poor sales of said games was due to The Sims 4 having way, way less content then The Sims 3 had at launch and Simcity being online only for unknown reasons. At least that's my guess. I can't really find anything on it as to the reason why, but then again I admit that I didn't look to hard. EA said that they will continue developing Maxis titles, but they will be handing it over to another company. My thoughts on this? This really pisses me off.

I've been a long time fan of Simcity and The Sims, both of them being one of the first PC games I ever played. A friend of mine had the Gamecube port of The Sims and I played the s*** out of it. I loved it so much that I bought the rest of the Gamecube Sims games. When the new Simcity was announced, I was excited to play it, but when I heard that it was online only my dreams were dashed and thrown away due to having a very unstable internet connection. The Sims 3 is one of the best games I've played and still has a large fanbase. I also really enjoyed The Sims 4, even though it was lacking in content. It just makes me mad to see EA just throw away a company that they were using as a cash cow for 12 years due to they're own f***ing choices for The Sims 4 and Simcity.

Anyway here's an article on it if anyone is interested: http://kotaku.com/ea-shuts-down-simcity-developer-maxis-1689454903

R.I.P. Maxis Games. You will be missed.

EDIT: Sorry if anything I said is hard to read. I didn't sleep last night and I didn't want to copy/paste some random article.

Maxis will be missed by many.
I for one was looking forward to that Sim tower remaster edition but i guess it is one of those thing that will not happen now.

For SimCity lovers rejoice! Cities Skylines is a great substitute. Played it at a friends house since I don't have the money for a new computer yet. (maybe later this year) and this life long Sim City fan was pleased! I'm sad to see Maxis go but it was largely self inflicted the newest Simcity was the culmination of years failures.
