Cencoroll

Our 29th activity in The Midnight Channel and part of our marathon event. When a gigantic, unearthly monster suddenly looms on the skyline of a Japanese city, the expected occurs—the Japan Self-Defense Forces roll out the tanks while the public panics. Nobody knows what it is or where it came from, but Yuki, a bold and inquisitive teenage girl, has a secret but might be a useful clue. Her friend Tetsu has been clandestinely caring for a bizarre creature called Cenco, which will soon prove itself to have some remarkable, even impossible characteristics. Another teenage boy, a stranger with some mysterious link to the monstrosity attacking the city, shows up, and his unwelcome interest in Tetsu's pet snuffs out any doubt of a connection—and lights the fuse for the coming battle.

 

This has to be one of the few random OVA's I've come across and thoroughly enjoyed, it had almost everything needed to be great and packed it into a measly 24 minutes. Weird creatures transforming, unusual animation, some romantic-ish elements [seems important to most people], battle sequences. It was that bizarre that that was what made it so enjoyable to me. The way they grew and basically incorporated whatever the hell they wanted intrigued me. Is it wrong of me to say that I want one of them as a pet[?] too.

Also interesting little bit of side news, apparently there is a 2nd season coming sometime in the future, not sure how relevant this is anymore since the announcement is 2 years old ad hasn't been updated since. Although considering there has been no official announcement for cancelling this production it is a bit early to give up all hope right away. But it was originally a one shot so perhaps they just couldn't get a 2nd one made.

 

I really enjoyed this OVA. I can't wait for sequel which is due sometime this Summer season!
