Now that everyone should be done with the Winter anime why don’t we hold an awards event to pick some of the best and worst?

Just to be clear you can vote for any anime that aired during the Winter season. So anime like Kill La Kill that started in the fall but ended in winter are valid.

Kind of seems fitting to incorporate the thread I normally make for Best Opening / Best Ending every season into something larger like this.


Exactly. It always feels a little dead at the end of a season especially during that one or two week gap between one season's anime ending and the next seasons anime starting. So why not have a nice little even around that time? Plus it highlights some of the high points of the season.

Explinations (Kept seperate from voting to make copying and pasting easier and are purely optional): Out of all the anime I remember watching this season I liked the opening of Nubunagun for doing what an opening should and helping you get excited for an episode. Witchcraft works ending is simply just really catchy for soem reason. I Chose Buddy Complex as best hidden gem because with that name I expected a slice of life school setting with a bunch of friends and Mecha forced in somehow. It's not a super great anime but it's must better than I thought it would be. Nobunaga the Fool is most disappointing because it's just so dull. The drama feels forced and even the Excentric MC feels like your genetic eccentric type protagonist. Meaning the fact that he is "eccentric" and different from everyone else is pretty much his only character trait and you can't relate to him at all. I think I've sun praises of Kill La Kill enough and condemed Kanou Sensou enough to not need to explain those.

Nobunagun explination: I thought Nobunagun had a very good animation style. It used effects to help convey emotion really well and the shift to dark colors when a battle started really helped set the mood. The show just really has an animation style all it's own but it's not annoying or trying so hard to stand out that it's distracting.

My love for yuri should explain why I added those two. Database is a good song. I'm disiponted with Mahou Sensou and I finished it. KlK was just pure epic.

It typically means both song and accompanying scene. Can always have a good song with a terrible scene, & viceversa. The combination of the two is just as important as the individual

I dropped most animes from this season, if not all due to lack of time. The thing i remember most from this season is Initial D, which i watched season 1 to 5 from with Knight. So i can't really vote in this.

 

Firstly well done Meta for getting this thread underway before this seasons anime have all started, for a little while I did think you were just going to let it go.
However I’m not so fond of this layout for the voting as it is mostly blind once enough posts are made, and some confusion seems to have taken place already.
Also do continuing series count as last season? If they do then we could potentially include One Piece, and then the biggest hidden gem anime that I’d encourage everyone to watch, Uchuu Kyoudai in this as well. If not then that removes Log Horizon and Kill la Kill from this voting.
Guess we can iron out the details this time ready for the next awards thread.

Now my nominees I’ll have to think about.

But anyway regarding the continuing anime thing I did say continuing Fall anime were valid for voting but I think long running and still going anime like One piece might be a bit much. Okay how about this you can only vote on anime that completed this season. So anime like Kill La Kill that started in Fall but ended in Winter are okay but Once Piece which is still ongoing can't be in the awards thread yet. That seems sensible because why would you award someone for being best hidden Gem, best/worst anime when you haven't seen the ending. Anime can change a lot by the end and either end really well and raise your opinion of it or end poorly and lower your opinion. But I guess that means Nobunaga the Fool is no good since that actually is still airing.


@Sir-Maddy you used the format but you need to actually copy the last completed list and add your own votes to it. Think of it kinda like the elimination game or the voting thread for this club. The difference being it's not really a contest.

Well calling an anime worst just because you think it's overrated is a bit unfair (For example I think SAO is overrated but it's really not that bad in the end) and I'd think the boring Nobunaga anime that you couldn't stand to continue would be more suited to that title. But technically I guess it's not against any rules or at least not any set so far. I do kinda feel like you should at least know a decent bit about an anime before saying anything about it but I don't know how much would make a good requirement. The first four episodes? Half the series? We should probably have a rule like that for next time around. So for now don't worry about it but we should figure out a few guidelines for the next time around.
