Everyone has that one game that none of your friends had heard of due to either poor marketing or it being sold at specific retailers. Those games that get moderate to bad reviews, but have a small, niche following. I personally love cult classics, be them movies or games, so I was wondering if anyone else has any that they really liked. For me, it's The Baten Kaitos series, most of Suda 51's library and Harvester.

I remember that one, pretty interesting, I don't think I went through it completely with all the variations to play it.

What? No mention of Xenogears yet? For shame

Obligatory mention of Shenmue. That's the definition of cult gaming there. I predict someone would pay thousands of dollars for a third game.
Actually I didn't like that game at all.

Beyond Good and Evil. Didn't sell well, but holy hell is it good. It somehow manages to have three styles of gameplay (action, stealth and vehicle based) and pull them all off perfectly. It has a plot that is well fleshed out, an ongoing side quest that is actually fun, great characters, great mechanics and minigames that are a delight to play.
Makes me even happier that a sequel is in the works.

Not sure if these are all considered cult classics but off the top of my head...The Fatal Frame games, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Run Saber, Killer is Dead, No More Heroes, Comix Zone and Binary Domain.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. It's a post-apocalyptic (sort of) FPS with RPG elements. Think less Fallout and more Metro 2033. Metro was actually inspired, in part, by S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and had a few of the same team members.

Dunno if any of you here have ever played it, but back in the early 90s there was Mutant League Football for the sega genesis. It played just like madden (from the same time frame) did & was hella fun.

Well, I don't really pay attention to the reviews, but I guess I'd say the Shadow Hearts series from PS2 era is a fairly unknown set of JRPGs that are really amazingly good, and so anyone who actually has played them really likes them alot. The series' precursor, Koudelka for the PSOne was probably even less well known - fairly short as RPGs go, but still pretty decent imo.

More recently, Valkyria Chronicles and NieR are two games I've played that I felt deserved much more love. NieR being relatively unknown, but Valkyria Chronicles being more along the lines of known of, but too quickly dismissed.

    Flashback (Sega Genesis)
This game was labeled as a cult classic and had a PC remake a few years ago. Interesting story, and fairly realistic. I did laugh on one part in which you drop for 100+ meters, grab a ledge, and gently drop to the ground, uninjured.

    Another World (Sega Genesis)

Same developer and game type as Flashback. Have yet to beat it.

    Sigma Star (GBA)

This one I really liked. Pity there are no others like it. Great gameplay, and interesting switch between ground and air combat. Also, combining different weapon abilities to come up with a special (or useless) attack for air combat was neat.

I remember the name, though I never played it.

Not sure if these are cult classics, but I liked these games: Sacred (originally by Ascaron Entertainment) and Overlord (published by Codemasters).
SiN and SiN Epsiodes were also some of my favorites, though I'm not sure these are "cult classics" either. It's too bad Ritual Entertainment was bought out by MumboJumbo and now they're being forced to develop casual games that everyone else seems to have made. As if we need 50 slightly different variations of Bubble Bobble.
